Perused the thread......Man when this was first conceived years ago they were talking a 50 million dollar payout to both teams.

Damn I really was hoping we were the home team... it's in TENN damnit!

I think you read the thread title wrong. I was confused at first too. I think he's basically saying we gave up homefield advantage for one of our other games in order to do the bristol game

Yeah, a number that they could never find a way to make work.

The payout will go up a little more for each team if they land a title sponsor.

Oh, oh!! Just head Dave Hart hint on tv he has been in discussions to wh*re us out to six other cities, too. Wow! We've went from the SEC to the WWF. Whats next? Chrome helmets, pink shoes?

Is that right? I find that incredible. If so, the Vols sold themselves way, way short just for some publicity.

I can't believe the short sightedness of some that post on here. Are you so blind as to not see the huge publicity and recruiting coup this represents over the next 3 years? And remember, that is before the game is played and regardless of its outcome!

Yes, instead of playing road games at places like Memphis, we're going to play a big opponent at an NFL stadium.

Still going to have the usual 7 home games, so what's your problem with this?

Was looking at the economic impact study from ten years ago and each home game brought in $3 million dollars not counting ticket sales of another $3 million, concessions $343,000 and parking fee income that was not listed.

Yes, attendance is not as good as it was ten years ago but there is no advantage for UT to play the game at Bristol other than publicity. Considering all things money will be lost compared to if the game were played here.

Tickets are now more as well as concessions. 343000 seems very low unless that is just the profit. That avg a little over $3, not even enough for a coke. How many student tickets are they? Easily over 4 million now for tickets plus they make a killing on merchandise on game days.

I heard $600,000.00 a game in concessions, tickets roughly $80.00 *95,000=7.6 mil. Something seems a bit off, but I'm going.

- Game day will be present (probably)

Oh yes, they'll be there.

This will be the junior year of our 2014 legacy class. With a (probable) good 2015 class this team will be poised to do something special in 2016.

Butch knows this will be the stage for a potentially huge year for UT football. Butch gets it.

Va Tech has been wanting a game with us for years. Could very easily have brought them here if we wanted to work it out. This is just a publicity gimmick....nothing more. I'm not going to fall for it.

Doesn't matter. It's just a change in uniform . We will kick their azzes in Tennessee so we are the home team.

He's just trying to be the other side of this discussion. He clearly has no idea what he is talking about.

4.3 million dollars. Very little travel expenses and alot of publicity!!!

And this could tip some "on the fence" recruits in our direction too. Who wouldn't want to play in the biggest CFB game ever. This thing is going to be huge all around.

The publicity and recruiting aspects of this game will far outweigh the 4 million that the athletic department is receiving.

Why are you comparing it to a home game rather than an away game? I should think we will come out better than we would with the typical away game by a rather large margin.

I swear, UT fans could be handed a solid gold toilet seat and they would complain it is too cold, or doesn't sit as well as the old wooden one with the cracked vinyl padding did. Those things may well be true, but there is still the little fact that is made of frickin' gold!

Wooden toilet? You have an outhouse with a vinyl toilet seat? Uppity IMHO....

Yeah...Alabama usually plays one of these every year recently, so I guess they are being "wh*red out" too.

The ability of people to gripe over absolutely ANYTHING is truly amazing.

No greater money will be made over a home game. I think the Knoxville area will lose money (restaurants, hotels, parking, etc) compared to what little UT is going to get paid for the Bristol event.

Dave Hart probably wasn't worried about the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce when he negotiated this game.

Lets play the devils advocate!! How would you feel if U.T. declined the offer to play Va. Tech at the Bristol Speed Way and lets say that Auburn accepted the offer?

Fans would be questioning why Hart let Auburn play in a major venue in our own neighborhood.

Let them play the game in 2016, and if it is a huge success, then the next time we play there, ask for more money....

The public relations and recruiting boost (tell kids they play in game that breaks world record for attendance records 160,000)alone is worth 10 times that you mook!!! GO VOLS!
