Vols hire Chaney per Multiple Sources

I'm NOT the one doubting CJP's ability to develop a defense. But sir, did you notice UGA's defense last year in the NC game against Bama? And what did Kirby's D get him this year?

His pathetic OC stunk it up at LSU and got his D gassed....same with TX in bowl game....same with Bama in the SEC championship...

It's why Kirby and crew were not interested in extending their time with Cheney. They are at least smart enough to realize that Cheney hit his ceiling and had nowhere to go but down.

This is a GREAT hire, proven SEC level OC.

A UGA fan and friend of man said he didn't think UGA tried to keep Chaney. That may be true with Chaney being told to coach TEs instead of QBs and also shared OC title. He also says Kirby will try hard to keep Pittman with him being a great OL coach and stud recruiter. He doesn't see Pittman leaving. I hope he is wrong! =)

Chaney is 0-4 against Gators when he was an OC at Tennesee. We weren't even that good then. Not worried now.

I did, but let’s be honest here. Jeremy Pruitt is a different animal than Kirby Smart. Pruitt’s defense is going to be more elite than Georgia’s defense in a matter of time. Pruitt leaving Bama has put Bama’s defense in a hole. Our defense in time will counter our offense. It is coming, and no one can’t stop it. Georgia and Florida is fixing to get smacked before long. We’ll worry about Bama later. It is the first steps of the SEC east first.

I think CJP was facing increased pressure to hire a guy with a reputation. But I don't think Cheney was CJP's 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice.

If Chaney is coming back (which he is), that means that he is not only getting paid well, but he actually WANTS to be at Tennessee. The value that will have on the recruiting trail and in his relationships with his players is well beyond what dollars can buy.

Possibly burn some bridges with IMG if you do that. I guess you could probably move someone to offensive quality control or some such position while still paying a premium for them. Martin has to be a staff position if he's brought in BC he's such an asset as a recruiter

Chaney had no D during those 4 years. I can assure you Pruitt will have a great D soon! You may not be worried in 2019. But, starting in 2020 and as long as Chaney and Pruitt are running the O and D you will be worried! You mark my word!

Fields left him and THAT was a biggy. Why? Fromm has had two years to get it done, is he going to miraculously get better than Tua by next year? No. So now Kirby has nowhere to go but with the retread Fromm. He's better than many others out there, but he's not a NC QB.

Dabo had a good QB last year, one that almost beat the Tide. He took a look at him in year two, saw no big improvements, knew he needed a change if he wanted to win the NC. Made change and upgraded the QB position, trounced the Tide.

People that know, have figured it out, Kirby is not placing a NC in the trophy case in Athens especially if he trots out Fromm as QB in year 3.

Did we watch a different UA v CU playoff game last year? That was a Bama defensive slaughter iirc. Almost beat the Tide?
