Vols Hire New Baseball Coach - Tony Vitello

Serrano was a proven head coach and you see how that worked out. Vitello could have great success or majorly flop. Nobody knows.

In my mind we've done well on paper. Great recruiter with lots of SEC experience. We're following the model that has worked the past few years in this conference, which is hiring a younger guy with SEC coaching and recruiting experience. It has worked well at Auburn, Kentucky, and Mississippi St so far.

And nobody is crowning him as amazing right now. Most are just encouraged that UT hired a baseball coach that checks almost all the boxes that posters on this site who follow college baseball closely were looking for.

Well said.

I agree here.

I guess ALL hires are questionable until they prove it.

There was an article in today's News Sentinel about Gilliam who is one of the signees for 2017 and I was wondering who are the others joining him at UT for next season?

Thanks for any information.

Good job by the AD.

Exactly how a coaching search should be run

What's funny is Vitello is about the same age as Chris Burke, but has actually proved he wants a HC job by coming up through the ranks.

When he is successful, are we to worry that Mizzou will want him?
Great problem to have.

Apparently he interviewed for Mizzou's HC job last June.

Hopefully, this turns out to be their loss.

I do not think it is anything to worry about. I think Mizzou was not wanting to take the risk on him yet. Even though he has a great reputation, he is still an assistant. They were probably wanting a guy with HC experience, just like we did. I think all the positive remarks and the fact that Arkansas fans really wanted Vitello to take over their program when their HC retires speaks volumes about him.

When should we know about Vitello's staff at Tennessee?

Any chance Mosiello comes back to join Vitello? I saw that mentioned somewhere this morning.

We do have a volley ball team...he is a coach from Arkansas...hopefully he doesn't have a Harley. :)

Somehow my impression based on his work thus far, he's not Lane Kiffin. :)

Stealing this from IT but I bet they are right.
Gaspard old Alabama coach makes a lot of sense to be on staff.
