Being preseason I don't see a problem with the top 4 rankings but 5-8 should maybe all ranked as tied at 5. Some young fellars gonna have to step up. Fall practice begins 31st....let the position competition begin

About where I expected us to be at. Using the media logic we play 5 of the bottom 6 teams in the conference.. but we balance that off with playing NC State, Bama, and of course.. Georgia

Honest question, is this acceptable considering this is CJH's 4th year? I realize ultimately this means nothing, but it's interesting that this is the perception of CJH's program in year 4.

I don't think it's a judgement on Heupel's system or program... it's a good team starting a rookie QB in the SEC, irregardless of his talent.

It's also only one experienced running back, in a system where a season's experience has so far resulted in a surplus of extra yardage and scores.

And it's also that we don't have SEC game-proven breakaway speed at receiver.

The first year doesn't really count because cornbread, and we are transitioning to a highly touted, but generally unproven qb. Really, to judge Heup will be based in two years when Nico is leaving. Are we just reloading or having to rebuild then?

7th in the SEC could translate to top 10-12 in the nation. That being said, I think we’re better than Mizzou, Texas, LSU and Ole Miss. i think we’re a toss up with Bama. And if Nico’s the generational talent we think he is, this is the first year since Dobbs was here that we have a legit shot at Georgia.

I honestly think LSU and Mizzou being above us is comical. Especially Mizzou. They lost 10 defensive contributors and their best playmaker on offense. Brady cook falls back to the mean and they’re 9-3 at best but probably 8-4 or worse.

15. Tennessee Volunteers

Question mark: Defense

Tennessee's secondary made tremendous strides last season, improving from 127th in the FBS in pass defense (289.5) in 2022 to 64th (221.5) in 2023. But the Volunteers will have to replace each of their five starters and six top defensive backs heading into this season. Coach Josh Heupel picked up a couple of key cornerbacks from the transfer portal -- Oregon State's Jermod McCoy and Temple's Jalen McMurray -- to help reload the back end of the defense. After the spring, Middle Tennessee transfer Jakobe Thomas is in line to start at free safety after the spring, and freshman Boo Carter is the No. 1 strong safety. -- Schlabach

Recruiting has to take a step up in order to move up into 2nd tier SEC standings.
Right now we are in Tier 3. We celebrate top 300 commits, Bama and Ga celebrate
top 100 recruits regularly, big diff.

We can't be satisfied with placing in 6th or 7th in SEC recruiting and then rely on transfers.

Think about this.

This season. The SEC of 2024
Is the TOUGHEST conference in
the HISTORY of college football.

I don’t think enough people have grasped that. We’re all excited about the format and the new games to be played, but there has never been a conference this challenging….in history.

HALF of the Conference has won a National Championship.
Tennessee
Auburn
Alabama
Florida
Georgia
Texas
Oklahoma
LSU

That’s nuts!!
