Vols preparing as though Maymon will be eligible for Pitt...

1. His grades are up, so it's not the profs.

2. It's not ridiculous. There is a deadline for the grades to be posted, and it hasn't arrived yet. The professors are not obligated to go grade your final as soon as you finish it. They might be working on research projects, which is actually a part of their job. Or, god forbid, they might have a life.

What are you - are professor, lol?

And I really don't give a crap - I'm sure Bruce has even gone up to these people begging them to just get his posted. Fact is - athletes get special privileges - so I didn't expect this to be any different.

OK, maybe he'd be in the same boat with you if he were an engineering student, but being a student-athlete in D-I basketball, we know he's not. I don't see why people are getting mad at the professors, all of his grades are in while MOST people don't have any. I have one of 6 posted right now, but all of his are posted, and the university is not letting him be eligible until his grades are finalized, which is just a few days before Christmas.

My point was - engineering tests/math tests usually take way longer to grade than any of the finals he's having to take or half of the students at UT... there are no scantron/fill in the bubble type tests.. just really long word problems and equations taking up several pages.

Even my engineering ethics class which has been behind all year and our final was just straight essays has been finalized.

This. And in any student-athlete situation, they are given ridiculous privileges every day, so I wouldn't complain about this one little formality. Yes, it sucks he may not play, but that's not the teachers' faults.

You want to hear a privilege that one Swiperboy indulged in not too long ago? He was taking a sound recording class, which I had taken a couple years ago, and it's pretty freaking hard; the midterms and finals are awful. After the midterm, Swiper with a few other students realized they were not going to pass the class. Unfortunately, by that time, the add/drop deadline had already passed, so they did not have the option to drop it, they had to take the grade they were to earn. The next day, Swiper was not in class because he got special documentation that would only get clearance for athletes in order to drop the class. In all reality, he totally went against the rules because he underestimated the difficulty of a music technology class. Special treatment all around for UT athletes.

Now the story is that his grades are posted... but the University hasn't cleared him.

Still, just as pathetic.

Your grades being posted on CPO doesn't mean they're finalized. Everyone's get finalized in a couple weeks from now.

What kind of "research program" could a bowling prof be a part of? For that matter what kind of a life could a bowling prof be a part of...

No - they've been finalized - I would bet my two nuts and my right to reproduce that nothing changes. Two of them have been up for well over a week.

It's not about whether anything will change. Professors still CAN change. That's (apparently) the problem.

But I really don't get what the problem is, as by that rationale grades can potentially be changed/challenged with proper procedure for a couple of YEARS.

They're final as far as your profs are concerned, but they're not "finalized" according to the university.

I don't think the one instructing the course has PhD in "Bowling."

The grades that professors post on CPO are your final grades. As you and I know, there is a window of time in which professors can post (and alter if needed) these grades. Until that time is up, your grades are not officially finalized. They are final, in the sense that they are your final grades for the course, but they won't become official transcript grades until that window of time is up.

With Maymon ineligible for tomorrow's game and Woolridge out with an injury, I'm assuming Hall will get some playing time. It would make sense for Bruce to stick with his plan and have Pearl at the 3 and Hall at the 4.

I think that's what I'd do. I guess he also has the option of keeping Steven at the 4, but using McRae as the back-up 3, then maybe using Hall at the 5. I don't think that's as likely as your prediction though.

And I say Hall at the 5 because he definitely played a little in a recent home game, not MTSU, but I can't remember. This seems impractical for Pitt, so he could very well play some 4.

That would be nice, but apparently Hall doesn't know the 4 position.

I bet Hall will stay at 5, and we'll see Jordie tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that, given UT's current posture with the NCAA, the last thing Bruce Pearl should be doing is attempting in any way to influence the actions of a professor regarding a player's grades.

One would hope that would always be a no-no, in any sport at any time.
