Vols ranked 10 in AP poll

Here is the poll with the conference champ auto bids circled, which means we are the first team out. One of you internet sleuths could probably go back and find where I wrote with a 12 team playoff no one should feel bad for the 13th team. In all fairness I did not realize MY team would be the 13th team. Karma.

So my understanding is that we need the teams ahead of us to take the automatic qualifier spots (Texas, Miami, Oregon, BYU) and for us to stomp the hell out of Vandy. Bonus points if Georgia Tech, Lizards, Auburn, and USC pull off upsets in the coming two weeks.

That Arkansas loss really put a screw in everything.

Honestly, I think we are in if the Gators beat Ole Miss and the Gators are starting to play good ball. The game is in the swamp too and we saw how hopping the swamp was for the LSU game.

They aren't going to take the top 12 teams in the AP. They have to factor in conference champions. And Boise St is amost guaranteed to be in as a representative of the non power conferences.

We need Texas to lose to TAMU and Georgia to choke against Tech.
Texas losing to AM is the opposite of what we need. Texas would still be above us then AM plays in SEC title game and also is in contention for another spot. Indiana losing probably drops them out of the top ten since they have no quality wins.

This head to head argument doesn't stand up.

Tennessee beat Bama
Bama beat Georgia
Georgia beat Tennessee

So who's better?

Ole Miss beat Georgia who beat Tennessee

So who's better?

It's a giant cluster. You can't just say because we beat Bama that we are a better team than them.
Tennessee beat Kentucky who beat Ole Miss. Biggest cluster I can remember. Almost like rock, paper, scissors in the conference. 😂

If we end reg season 10-2, get left out of playoff, beat someone's azz in bowl for 11th win ... I am refusing to be sad about that.
Indeed. Unless Hades freezes over and we lose to UTEP, we will have exceeded my seasons expectations Saturday. Everything beyond 8 wins is gravy to me. My frustration is in being so close to a breakthrough season and failing again. Even worse, it was against the hated mutts. I'd take a losing season to beat those guys.

What does that say about Arkansas? They better than us?
They lost at home to Kentucky. Way worse than losing to Arkansas on the road at night. And they lost to LSU who looked terrible against a Florida team we beat with both of their QBs. Lagway basically playing on one and a half hamstrings right now and beat LSU.

Georgia dropped 9 spots when they lost to Ole Miss and took their second loss and they had SoS on their side. Texas has a very weak SoS as it is and a loss would devastate their chances compared to teams like Bama, Ole Miss, Georgia and Tennessee. And history shows the last team to lose always looks the worst in the eyes of the voters. AND Tennessee can climb the ranking if we stomp a mud hole in UTEP and Vandy even if other teams don't lose. It's not a given at all that Texas stays ranked ahead of us.
