Vols ranked 10 in AP poll

I think for Tennessee to have a competitive chance in the playoffs or to get in at all we need as many 2 loss teams as possible.

Indiana should beat OSU
TAMU should beat Texas
Army should beat ND

Most of these teams ranked above us are only there because they have 0 or 1 loss and we have 2.
I agree. I think the final CFP meetings should be high drama. Hearts WILL be broken.

I'm comparing two resumes. Not the entire SEC. If it comes down to the last spot and Tennessee and Bama are both sitting there we deserve to be in over Bama. It should be Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Bama in the rankings imo.
Why?

Can't Bama fans say they compared their resume to Georgia and beat them head to head so how does Georgia get in and Bama doesn't?

Technically Bama beat the #2 team in the country when they beat Georgia.

Tennessee beat the #7 team when they beat Bama.

Doesn't that make Bama's head to head more impressive a win?

But but... Bama lost to Vandy.

Well Vandy has a better record and ranked higher than Arkansas so.....

You’re the one who said to put the resumes next to each other and we would be the clear cut winner. Well, I did that and we lose every category. Now you want to change your argument. 😂😂
That post was in response to someone else. I stand by the resumes comparison. You put Tennessee's vs Bama's blindly and every person would pick Tennessee. Head to head matters. Two teams are compared with the same records. You could argue they beat Georgia and Georgia beat Tennessee. I could argue they lost to Vandy we beat Vandy. Its a wash. We played them head to head on the field and won. It speaks for itself.

Bama is also probably going to be in the SEC title game though. So, that’s going to help them even if they lose it.
If we beat Vanderbilt they shouldn’t be able to get in ahead of us. That’s head to head and like opponent advantage for TN. What’s the next tiebreaker?

Sure. We beat Bama but Bama beat Georgia and Georgia beat Tennessee and Texas. So who is better than who?

The only thing we can hope is that TAMU beats Texas and maybe Georgia chokes against Tech. And of course Tennessee can't choke against Vandy.
Wrong we need A@M to lose, we need Mississippi to lose to Florida. They are going to be 4 sec teams in. The main thing is we win out. 4 conference champions and 1 group of 5 champ and Notre Dame if they don’t lose that is 6. Then 3 more from big 10 and Sec is likely.

Georgia's two losses were to 2 top 10 ranked Teams. They also beat Texas on the road and beat Clemson. Tennessee lost to a bad Arkansas team and Georgia. Alabama lost to a mediocre Vandy (who hopefully we beat) and Tennessee. Georgia's two losses were to top 10 teams, both Tennessee and Alabama have one good win and one bad loss. At that point you have to look at head to head which Tennessee won.

Let's face it 3 of the 4 B1G teams were given easy paths to 0 or 1 loss seasons.

- Oregon only plays OSU
- PSU only plays OSU
- Indiana only plays OSU

OSU basically got the bad end of the deal in the B1G. Granted there was probably the thought that Michigan would be a good team and OSU, Oregon and Indiana play Michigan.

Georgia's losses are to 2 top 10 ranked teams 'as of now'. Bama at one point was "out of the top ten". Ole Miss at one point was "out of the top ten". Either one or both of those teams lose again, they are "out of the top ten".

The top ten is a moving target.

Not sure TAMU beating Texas really helps unless Kentucky also beats Texas…and then you still might need TAMU to lose to Auburn the week before

Bama is dominating teams of late. SEC teams. They also destroyed a B1G 10 team on the road. We haven’t dominated anyone since Kent State. The eye test is certainly a factor.

Their wins aren't looking that great just like NC State or Oklahoma for us. LSU and Missouri are just not that good and Wisconsin is mediocre as well. If Wisconsin was decent, they would have beat Oregon. Traveling across country is very tough on teams and Wisconsin failed to take advantage of that with Oregon.

Georgia has the hardest schedule in the nation. They will be in and should be the highest 2 loss team.

Is is written somewhere that strength of schedule takes precedent over head-to-head results?
No. The clause I’m using here is actually fourth on the list of tiebreakers. Head to head can’t be factored when three or more teams are tied. Especially if they all played each other.

Again an example similar to what I used earlier today is

Tenn beat Bama
Bama beat Georgia
Georgia beat Tenn

So who would be “the” team? There’s no way to value head to head.

H2H usually get skipped once there are enough teams to make it convoluted. For example, the tiebreaker for SEC CG will skip all the way down to win % against SEC foes. Alabama currently leads that. Tennessee currently has the lowest among 2-loss teams. I would not be surprised if the CFP committee also at least considers this when deciding which SEC teams took care of business the best within such a tough conference.

This skipping over H2H, once it's inconclusive, has been done in every tourney seeding I've ever been a part of. It's nothing unusual.

Great news. Hope our guys and coaches snap and clear and put the hammer down on these last two opponents. Out of our control now, but anything could happen.

Texas has got the benefit of their schedule. When they beat Michigan, it was considered a good win - not so much anymore - that that pushed them to the top 3 or 4. As teams lost, they moved up - case in point when Bama beat UGA then Bama lost to Vandy then Tennessee - Texas benefited. They lost to UGA the seventh game of the season and as other teams have lost, they have moved up. They are setting at three because of that.

If they lost to A&M they will drop - where they land will depend upon the score and how the other teams look THAT WEEK. A loss would also remove them from the SEC title game, so no chance for movement - but like the SEC teams that don't make the game, with a host of 2 loss teams there would be movement after the championship games.

If they beat A&M, they will probably see loss number 2 in the SEC game. What if that loss is to Bama? They would have lost to the two best SEC teams they played - while Tennessee split with the two, Ole Miss beat one of them.

All I will say is that selecting 3 or 4 from the SEC teams is going to be controversial given the potential of who beat whom and who lost to whom.

The wheels have come off at LSU. Florida is just as good a win at this point.
