Very cool. Curious to see what it will look like. If it doesn't look good, it wasn't about the looks anyway. GoVols

I wrote a paper on that very thing in college and got absolutely bashed by my professor. She told me I was sexist and skewed the numbers even though my sources were legit.

These “awareness” pronouncements have become so pervasive in American media and at all the social and sporting venues that I hardly even notice them anymore. Their omnipresence has become so ordinary that it’s hard not to completely ignore the signs and emblems nowadays. When I’m at a sports venue, the orbs I’m thinking of are the ones that go through the hoop or over the fence, not the ones symbolized by pink ribbons. However, I am always reminded of the importance of healthy tatas every time I go to the strip club. Maybe that’s where the awareness campaigns should be taking place; at a location where the subject matter gets the most attention. Just saying...

I am all for this...

This Link says 71.2% goes to programs and services sponsored by the ACS

Yes, I know that these programs and services are not all "research" but there is so much more to this problem than "curing" cancer. There is the real life fact that people have to live with this.

There is survivor support, end of life care, wigs, etc. etc. Things that do help.

IMHO its not about the sales of pink merchandise.. its simply the visual of the pink on the players. If its enough to get a few people to do some more self checks or go get a mammogram... then its 100% worth it.

Also, you people who are saying that more people die of colon cancer, prostate cancer.. etc etc.. I 100% agree with you... so my question to you is... why are you not taking up the cause that you pointed out. Why are you not raising money, creating drives, and doing whatever you can to bring awareness to the issues? Stop complaining about breast cancer awareness and do something about the other things.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

I mean if you really wanted to fund for something cancer wise, I'd advice leukemia. They are very close to finding a true cure for specific types of leukemia. I also know for a fact for breast cancer they are trying to make a drug that acts as the p53 gene does in the cell cycle to induce apoptosis in tumor cells. That's a long ways off though. There's a lot to cancer research though. I work in a animal research lab and it takes years to prove you even have a drug that works on a mouse let alone a human. The idea behind cancer is that it takes on average 3 oncogenes to create most tumor cells. There's something like 100 of these genes, so that means on average for any specific cancer there 100^3 ways the tumor could have been formed. That's not always true, but it's a pretty good average to show just how many types of cancers there are. This is why it's near impossible to find cures unless you find a cure for a very specific and common type.

All for awareness but do it some other way. Not a fan of pink and orange combo

Really, wow it's about being part of something bigger than yourself. Helping raise awareness for many Americans any way possible. It's not about what colors you like together. It's about letting Men and Women understand how wide spread this is, and how many are affected by it. I could be wrong but you must have not been directly affected by this cancer. I say that because if you were then you would want to get the word out anyway possible. My step mother just went through this for the second time. I've seen her lose her hair twice, lose both her breast, and look like a person that was about to give in, but she wants to be an inspiration for others. She wants to get the word out on how to give self examinations, how to understand what's happening, and how to stay strong. It not just about the color pink. It's about being aware and understanding. If UT wearing pink helps one person then it was definitely worth it even if the colors don't match.

And yes men can get breast cancer to!! It normally happens around age 60 for men, but can get it at any age.

Edit: and for those that did not know that men could get breast cancer. now you do, and just talking about UT wearing pink has already helped. Just imagine how many more it could affect when they do wear pink.

Your probably not sexist but......I've never seen anything that supports that:cray: less than 10% of donations go to research. That's not accurate by any means.

Awareness is also a big part of the battle. Oh yea and don't forget this isn't all about Breast Cancer in Women, actually men get is as well!

Everyone should wear a touch of pink on Sat. most familes are touched by Cancer in some form.

You sure we're not wearing orange jerseys?

Seems odd, since it's a home game.
