Vols Switching to Nike?

I never will understand all the love for Nike on this site. Their shoes are way to narrow and their cloths come apart. The Adidas stuff I have has lasted a lot longer. Adidas shoes are OK, I usually wear New Balance. The bottom line is Nike needs to step up and match the Adidas deal. They do that and I don't really care which Uni gets used. I am not going to be wearing the things. I'll still be able to get fan gear from whoever I want. At the very least UT should get final say of the uniform design. That should be a deal breaker.

In conjunction with deerpark12's many contributions on this topic, I would consider the following to be a rather definitive answer to the original poster's question, at least in the short term:

VOLQUEST: We would be [disingenuous] if we didn't ask you about the apparel contract and where you are with negiotations with that?

DAVE HART:
Probably the same place we were the last time we talked. I think anytime you have a contract that is approaching the term limit -- and we said this months ago - that you get into that assessment period and that's where we are. Adidas is our partner and they are going to be our partner for no fewer than 18 more months and maybe longer. That's where we are. We are in that same process (State of the program: Dave Hart, Part II).

I for one think we need to just contact the Bike athletic company and throw away the rest of the offers and contracts!! Go vintage or go home!!!

Just finished creating these bad boys!! Let me know what you all think.

Interesting tidbit on Notre Dame leaning towards switching to Under Armour and I thought this spoke volumes:

"With Nike, Notre Dame would be just one more fish in the sea."

I know that is rumor, but if ND feels they'd just be another fish in the sea with Nike, how in the world do you think Tennessee would be treated? I also get they mean in the sense they want to be the top billed program for a brand, but again, if ND thinks this, do you not think UT would be much worse? We don't compare to ND nationally as a brand.

As far as fan wear goes, I do like the shirts/hoodies etc that Nike puts out better than Adidas....I'm not a fan of Under Armour at all.

I have no clue how you guys are saying "X is so much better quality than Y...and Z sucks the worst!!" ....It's honestly all been about the same to me quality wise.

Recruits like Nike, therefore I like Nike. Adidas always screw up Tennessee orange anyways...

I agree if we switch to nike there's no telling what kind of ugly unis we will have. Take a look at oregon and maryland man them look awful. I hope we stay with adidas I thought they did a awesome job making our smokey gray unis. Plus your right nike don't know how to do tn orange right

So just wanted to put this out there. Was watching some TXHS football games recently, and it hit me that Adidas is making a pretty solid push in the HS ranks. At least here which is big time. So imo changing to Nike because that's what recruits want is still not a good idea. It'll eventually even itself out, and adidas will close any gaps there. So throwing away the type of contract adidas gives us to go downward just because "recruits" want them is not a very good idea.

And adidas isn't supplying scrubs either. They supply uniforms to Aledo HS who just won a 4A championship. Maxpreps have them 4th in the state and 13th nationwide. Also, they r the first team in the country to score 1000+ pts in a season. Yes this is the team that made national news this season for "running up" the score....91-0.

Anyway, just saying the "for the recruits" reason isn't really worth much. This argument amongst people on here basically comes down to people that like/hate Nike/Adidas.

I went to that game. The starters didnt play even full first half. The whiny gypsys from western hills just quit and expected a real team to follow suit. The third and fourth team players from aledo are next years first and second team. Games like that is how they get thier first taste. It was crap that aledo gets bad image over something where they did the right thing. /end rant

I prefer nike and UA for appareal fwiw. Guess on here we have to declare allegiance

Just to let everybody know...You do know that the UT jerseys are made at one factory and the only difference in them would be the swoosh on the jersey...You do know that right?....The Adidas jerseys they wear come from the exact same factory that sports belle was made at when we wore those....Nike would hire the same factory to make our jerseys...The exact same jerseys we wear now...And not one of you could tell the difference if it were a Nike jersey or an adidas jersey without the emblem on them....All this means nothing anyways because We won't switch from Adidas thank goodness.

Not anymore, jerseys haven't been made there in over a decade. Nike uses a company in Nebraska, Adidas uses a supplier in Wisconsin. The old Sports Belle factory is an auction house.

If Tennessee ends their relationship with Adidas, that will be a huge surprise. I mean, this started in the 1970's, right? I just don't see it happening.

Both make the stuff in China. You can ship it to where ever you want, but its still cheap Chinese crap. Those two places in Nebraska and Wisconsin are middlemen.
