Vols Switching to Nike?

We have an orange, white, and grey jersey. We have white, orange, and grey pants. We have a white helmet with an orange stripe and a 2 power Ts on it. Anytime a black jersey gets mentioned, everyone $hits the bed. So what exactly would bringing in another company change for us?

And if you say they would give us more personal care, attention, blah blah, then you must be mistaken. A company (nike) with the majority of schools in the US would not devote the same amount of attention to us (especially considering they have oregon, bama, etc.) as a company for which we are one of their primary attractions (especially now that ND is gone).

Ya'll saw UGA's uni's a few years back against Boise...i'd be willing to say UGA was forced to wear those and had no choice in the matter. Do ya'll really want that?

What about Under Armour? They inked a huge contract with ND who was a former Adidas school and UA is paying more money than Adidas.

ND is a national brand with its own TV network and a very large national fanbase.

While UT has a national presence, we are more of a regional fanbase. Even if we got a contract with UA, it wouldn't even approach their deal. Maybe back in the 90s, but then again UA didn;t exist back then.

Also, We wore UA in high school football, and I went through three pairs of cleats in a season, and the jersey numbers started ripping off halfway through the first game. So that was the initial thing that turned me off UA. I know they would provide higher quality stuff for a college program, but Connor Shaw said the same thing about his cleats.

And personally, I just don't really like the style of most of what UA puts out. I'm more into an Adidas/Nike classic look. (For Example, Bama and UT)

I prefer Nike apparel to that of Adidas - heck half the time Adidas can't even get the orange color right. But I do not care for Nike footwear. That being said the Ath Dept will go with the highest bidder!

Well from what I've been hearing Adidas wants to get out of college football and concentrate more on soccer...Which shocks me but who knows if its true or not...A switch to nike might be in the cards but there will be no difference in the jerseys except the swoosh on the shoulder....Hard to picture us going with them as they would treat us like 2nd class citizens but crazier things have happened.

Not accurate. Their soccer division is under Adidas International, their college sports properties under Adidas America. Completely different divisions of he company.

Adidas has re-signed Nebraska, UCLA and Wisconsin in the last year and made a huge offer to keep ND. Ultimately not as bug as Under Armour's, though.

You think we can get that big offer?

Is adidas going after any Nike or under armour schools with expiring contracts

you can't be serious. UT won't get near that.

Then we should go with Nike. The recruits love that stuff. Personally, I would not mind seeing some wild unis too. If it works in our favor, then lets "just do it". The "T" stays on everything of course...

Good :good!:

As big as Notre Dames? No. What they got from Under Armour is the largest deal in the history of college sports. We won't touch that.

But as I've said before, our current deal with Adidas is worth more money than most deals Nike has with schools.

Adidas has offered a healthy increase. Nike can't and won't offer the amount Adidas has, but we seem to have an athletic director set to change because of a prior relationship with Nike. We would have to take far less money to switch. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Surely Nike will at least match the offer from Adidas. Even if it is only close to matching, I would change. Having the most prolific sports apparel producer in the US and probably the world as a sponsor has its advantages with regard to image. Just me though.

Iirc, only top tier Nike schools get to have creative control over their uniforms. If we made the switch, would we decide what our uniforms look like or would Nike tell us what to wear? That is the biggest factor to me. I much prefer Nike fan gear but I like our uniform's classic look and Adidas let's us keep it. Will a deal with Nike do the same?

There is nothing, by any brand in sports attire, that looks smoother than the Adidas three stripes track jacket/suit. I'll take that over a hoodie with a swoosh on it any day of the week and twice on gameday.

My thoughts exactly

"Adidas can't get the orange right"

I don't get this either. There are so many factors. Lighting, whether it's day or night, whether you're watching it on TV or in the stadium, how far away you are, how bright the sun is, how tight the jersey is stretched...

Do you really think Nike would be better at this? I don't. Especially considering we wouldn;t be one of their "elite" clients. I think it's just the consequences of having a unique color. They're close enough, we all can clearly see it's the vols playing, and so can the rest of the country.

Also, another thing about the creative control. I brought this up before, but i think it's appropriate. Remeber the atrocious uniforms that UGA wore in the CHick Fil A kickof classic in 2011? Those things were awful. Awful. And I'd be willing to bet that UGA was forced to wear those. The same thing would happen to us

I'm from chattanooga. Just heard UTC or Chattanooga university as some call it have change to Adidas unis

Why would they when they haven't the last three times the contract was up for bid? Nike just doesn't pay what Adidas is willing to, never has.

I was talking about the offer that Adidas offered ND. Surely with them losing a big school they'll try to up the ante to keep us.

I hate to tell you, but UT isn't the national brand it once was. It's not bad, but nowhere near where it was in the 1990's....2 decades ago!

ND has had its ups and downs but it is still a national brand with its own tv contract.

Thx again for ur info DP. U know my feelings on hart and this situation. Just wondering how he expects to ask the regular everyday donor to donate when he, for his own personal gain, leaves as much money as he will on the table if he does the switch to Nike?!?!

If he does make the change i'll be rethinking continuing mine the day I get my hands on my Bristol game tix. Especially if in these times he slaps a long term partner that we have had a good relationship with for significantly less money, and control of our traditions. All for his own gain. This switch would make national news, and it will bring embarrassment to UT trying to justify it that's for sure.
