In CFB I would mostly agree. PFF has some value, especially in 1 on 1 matchups. But the problem is that for the majority of plays you just have zero clue what a particular player's assignment is. We see a bad int thrown straight to a CB, but maybe the WR ran a poor route or the wrong route. We see a CB get beat deep, but maybe he was expecting S help over the top. We see an OL get beat bad, but maybe it was supposed to be trap block and the G didn't pull?PFF is absolutely worthless and should never be used to judge players
I hope you’re right for sure! And he could. But, taking time to learn a system is a piss poor excuse to drop balls that hit you in the hand on a slant. It’s okay to say he was pathetic this year. Can he get better? Absolutely! But he deserves little to no leeway from how he played this seasonOut of position and takes time to learn WR in this system. He’s going to have a good year next year.
If the rumors are true and he's a me first kind of guy, I kinda wonder if this staff will take a chance bringing a character into the locker room. That type doesn't seem to fit with the other names we're reportedly involved with. We surely won't pull a Colorado and break the bank for one player that's not a QB. With so many areas needing immediate help, I think our money is better spent being spread out among guys who we can count on and will hopefully be solid contributors rather than one mercurial type player. You’re assuming we want Wells that bad.
Not sure why we aren’t going after high-level performers but hope it works out.Ramsey I'm familiar with and he would be a good pickup. Multiple years, too. Brazzell had a great freshman season albeit vs a lower caliber of competition. Still, multiple years, and I came across an article that was very complimentary. Looks like Heupel isn't necessarily going after the limelight guys who are looking for attention and the payday. All the names being mentioned are guys with great work ethics, multiple years and lots of production early with a potential for even more down the road. Pretty much the kinds of kids we seem drawn to in HS recruiting.
Brazzell a worker
The dude had 700+ yards and 5 TDs as a freshman. Hes 6’5” and a guy who can come down with some 50/50 balls. Definitely something we need.
I wasn’t referring to any one player. Just looking at the portal as a whole. I know I’m not the only person who thought we’d be able to land some guys who could come in and improve our starting lineup. When our OL or secondary struggled this fall all I heard was “we better hit the portal hard!” and everyone agreed. Well, so far we’ve lost how many starters? And how many guys are trending toward the Vols? I know there’s time left but so far it doesn’t look like we’re getting better through the portalI would say 700+ receiving yards and 5 TD's as a redshirt freshmen is pretty high-level, but maybe my standards are just too low.
True but the portal window is different than in year’s past. Also folks, we aren't done by a long shot. Thornton, Bru, Campbell, ONL, etc, were all big pretty big name transfers who we got after the new year. Just because we may not be super active now, doesn't mean we're missing out on every big name transfer. A lot more players will enter after the bowl games as new transfers come in and as coaches get fired/take new jobs.
Every year TOS/others in the know tell us that this staff is going to be super selective and wait for the right guys to become available, and every year we freak out about not getting the first few guys that enter the portal. Then we land guys like Bru, Campbell, ONL, etc. after the new year and we realize maybe the staff actually does have an idea of what it's looking for in transfers.
If we haven't added talent in 2 months, by all means freak out. Until then, let's chill.
