Why would it be a huge disappointment if he does leave?
He’s a RSFR, this would be his 3rd year in a college S&C program, and he was right there in the beginning of camp with everyone else. Lane had 4 years on him and so naturally he is probably stronger and more disciplined than Nichols. Karic is a year or two older so same thing. OL is a developmental position and by many accounts, Nichols was close on many occasions to getting into the mix. Plus its less depth so I hate that anyone who might be seen as a possible contributor to leave atp, especially when there’s not a ton of other options at Guard.

Hard for me to be upset about losing a guy that Ollie Lane kept off the field.

Ollie was good in the run game. Probably more physical than most other options. Point I was making is Ollie is gone and Nichols was still a RsFr so not sure how anyone can be mad that a RsFr wasnt starting over a 6th year senior. With another offseason in the program, he’ll be 20 years old and maybe ready to contribute. Not many players can play in the trenches at 18-19 years old. I think it’s unfair to expect it.

That's fair.

Why is he leaving or why am I disappointed?
Well, speculating but perhaps Spraggins is going to return for another year and he doesn't want to play behind him again? You would think even if Spraggins returned Nichols would have a shot starting at LG. I think most have been surprised he wasn't in the rotation this year.

Agreed on Sprag. Hopefully he’s back.

I know Hubbs and AP especially were surprised Nichols didnt get more PT. AP said he had a bad fall camp. Karic is the only LG in front of him currently on the roster so that’s why its a blow imo.

I saw a headline about 3 Nashville area Kentucky players enter the portal> I was hoping it was WRs Barion Brown and Key but it was 2022 Wade Brothers LB/QB and WR Porter 2023. 10 KY players in portal.

What about Walter Nolan from Texas A/M
I have no insider info on this one. Its a weird situation for sure.

Im not sure he and Coach Garner meshed together during his initial recruitment/before he went to aTm. So I don’t know if they are currently kicking the tires or not.

Personally they’d be a fool not to, because he’s a starter.

Im also not sure Spyre can afford him if they’re going all in on Seaton as has been prognosticated. I get the impression Spyre is not the premiere collective anymore and has to be picky with their contracts.

This whole business of managing the portal while maybe trying to play a bowl game and finish frosh recruiting class has got to be maddening for coaches.
I would think it's a bit easier than keeping track of all the recruits. It appears to be more structured.

I've always wondered what the scoop is on Turnage. He played some good football at times but either always hurt and couldn't make the starting group. Injuries? Effort?
I've wondered the same thing. Had high hopes for him when he got here
