Speaking of LSU...the next game was a glaring example of why the Chief received so much criticism

Unjustified - the team was too high after finally getting the UF monkey off the back and was not sharp enough - and the typical (ignorant) fan reaction was to look for the scapegoat and put all the blame for that on the Chief.

That was clearly a fumble.

No kidding! Given all the crap that happened to our program I was slightly worried about that 2 point conversion at the end  (was waiting for the refs to go 12 years back in time and throw the flag in the back of the end zone to steal that game away from us).

Not ALL by any stretch and Chavis has earned his rep as a premier defensive mind but as in the hobnail boot game in the same year...the SEC Championship game was not one for the resume...when a practically green one-dimensional Matt Mauck QB keeps his way down the field against a DL with John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth...something wasn't adjusted...we don't have a national championship without Chief, but we'd have had a shot at another one if he hadn't submitted one of his weaker efforts that day...ftr I did nothing but defend our guru until that season.

Even the best coaches can have stretches of games (or even the full season once in a while) where results (and/or their schemes) don't live up to expectations or past achievements. Look at Monta Kiffin as another example this year - if you never knew him from before you would assume he can't coach defense but is well understood that he's one of the premier DC's in the NFL history in spite of what happened in Dallas this year.

Agree with your point for the most part, but Monte is an example of losing your edge in coaching...at least dating back to the Ole Miss game in his one season at Tennessee...he's been utter garbage since :ermm:

Let's see how he fares against the Eagles offense - very curious about that game.

Best game Ive ever watched as a Tennessee fan. Might not have been for a NC, but as far as level of play (on both sides), this game was incredible!

The old Monte at least held his own against Kelly this year (17-3 W, and 22-24 L in two games). But in typical Cowboy fashion their QB throws the game away again at the end of the game (after playing well for most of the game).
