Vols will beat the Sooners

These are not Dooley project 3 and 4*s. They are highly sought after by big time programs and a number of them bleed orange like no other class before them. Freshman in college football over the last few years have made huge impacts for their teams. Kind of like college basketball players now days.

You did watch Oklahoma beat Bama like a rented mule? Surely you guys are not serious, because y'all will be ready to fire Jones by Oct 1 if you are.

You want to go tell that to Todd Kelly or Dillon bates? They will refuse to go down in Norman.

I've been watching OU play for 35 years and I really cannot remember a single time when an opposing true freshman came into Norman and made a big difference. In the third game of a freshman year, Stoops will be delighted to see either of these guys you reference on the field.

I do believe Tennessee is turning the corner and that the game in 15 that UT hosts will be closer, but the types of guys you refer to are not proven free agents; they are freshmen. True freshmen almost never make a real difference in big time football. I agree with the poster above...if anyone believes this incoming class will make a huge difference in 14 they'll be calling for CBJ head by October. Players have to develop. Fans need to wait. It'll get worse before it gets (a lot) better.

I like the optimism but lets not forget OU did just beat Bama. Hopefully the people calling for an upset arent calling for Butch's head if we lose because "we should have won that game"

Stoops. He's the weak link. OU has lost games they should have won. We very well may lose, but I would not be surprised one bit to beat them.

Well, since our Vols are gonna beat the sooners, than we are also gonna beat bama. Because with the transitive property, the sooners beat bama, so when we beat sooners we will also beat bama....it's gonna be a great season!

Bama is already in discussions to buy out their game against us.

Those specs sound like they're pretty thick right now.

I still want a pair to wear for game day this fall. Awesome. :good!:

OP = VFL IMO

Good grief this is not the time for brutal honesty. It's the time for GO BIG ORANGE! Bobblehead Bob don't know what he's got himself into!

(Note: the previous statement is intended to be forward-looking, and does not reflect the emotions I felt toward Oklahoma, and Bob Stoops in particular, in a recent brief man-crush for embarrassing Nick Saban and his merry band of rednecks. Sugar Bowl is in the past. He must lose now and lose HARD.)

Based on what?

Any reason other than just "because they go to the university of tennessee?"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I though I read Tennessee is the only team in the nation to lose all five starters on its offensive line.

and this staff couldnt beat vandy with two weeks to prepare..so they r going to take a brand new line n beat ou n norman..

the op will be on here n the fall saying no way i said that...lol

<sigh> I know, but not really.

Actually, I'm trying to think of a true freshman player that had a breakout game against us in recent memory. Can't think of one.

Bamas reciever amari cooper 2 years ago then again his sophomore year.

Im shocked by the love for OU in this thread. I think 7-5 is realistic next year and that one of those is against OU. Not actually ground breaking. We beat USC last year and almost beat UGA (i know there were injuries).

Arghhhh the OP is the type of fan/person that drives me nuts about this fan base. Been saying this type of guy is going to keep UT down if not controlled for yrs. So glad to see others calling him out. One thing is being excited about the class but to bet the house that all these freshman are going to be ready to go into Norman by the 3rd game and beat them. Smh. Can it happen "any given saturday style" sure. But let's just take things day by day for goodness sake.

Here's the deal for me...I don't want us to get spanked of course but at the same time I don't want us to lose a close game either. Winning would be great but if we lose the rest of season I don't care to hear the riding one game crap as it would be the classic "any given saturday" game. I'd take 2 solid SEC wins over beating OK in a heartbeat. I usually rather lose a close game than lose big like others, but I fear that if we lose this game close it could turn this game into Dooley's LSU game for CBJ. No one expected us to go in there and make a game of it like we did. A last play cluster f*uck of confusion error and the guy couldn't live it down from The Legion of the Miserable. Yet majority of them going into the game would have been happy with not getting embarrassed.

The Sooners don't lose at home much. Yes I understand the play TX in Dallas, but still. They will be pumped for this game. Their fan base didn't have a big non-conference name come to Norman last yr, so they'll be ready. ND in '12 was the last time. But the chance for them to take on and beat a traditional SEC team is circled on the calendar especially after beating bama. This fan base is even more illogical than ours so the fact that we have been down won't make a difference to them. They'll boast about how crappy the SEC is forever. We need to be concerned more with seeing how CBJ has these kids ready to play. See how he did in the offseason, and seeing if he has them ready to take on the SEC. The Vandy loss with 2 weeks to prepare was really a bad showing. One positive thing is that he lost to them only by 2 in '10 at Cincy, so at least he's gone against Stoops once. Is CBJ a "jimmy and joes" coach or a "make lemonade out of the lemons handed to him" type of coach? This is what we will need to look out for next year.

In a sense this game will be a good start up for conference play. Which is the most important thing right now. Hopefully after the season we can be confident that when they come to our house we don't let them beat us.

I understand that Oklahoma beat bama however I dont see them as a team comparable to Alabama or Oregon
May not win but it should be close

Yeah, because if Oklahoma ever played Alabama, the Tide would obviously destroy th-- oh...never mind.

You don't understand Stoops if you think this. The games his Sooner team flubs up are never early season non conference marquee matchups. They are almost always November trap games versus pass happy overachieving conference doormats. This will be the circled game prior to Texas...he's lost that one only once that I know of... And that one required a seven minute official reply to give Oregon an extra series of downs to blow.

You can be absolutely certain that UT is the game the 18 returning OU starters are licking their chops about. The weeks before the game Bob will trash the Sec publicly, and then he will back it up to the tune of something like 37-9. Stoops has about 4 home losses in his history, and this UT team being about as good as a typical non conference OU opponent (Cincinnati, South Florida, Washington State, etc) is not going to be enough to give him a 5th. I hope it's a close game bc of my divided loyalties, but I doubt it will be.

Why point to one season opener as something special? Oklahoma is just another opponent. With rebuilt lines on offense and defense, it's anyone's guess as to how we look in the opening game.
