So why don't we have more walk-ons come in and sit for a few years then when its time for them to step up they will magically be good?
Im sorry, the most important position on the o-line being filled by a walk on isnt a good thing any way you want to spin it.
How long can it take a 20 year old who has been an athlete his whole life to get into shape? Surely not longer than a couple of months. A young man with his obvious talent should respond quickly to work outs I would think?
Months? If you work your butt off, it is possible to get in shape in 2 weeks(strictly cardio speaking). I know because I have had to do it.
And that is from completely out of shape to peak shape.
If he isn't in shape come summer, time is not the issue.
Great article. Stanford had 8 former walk-ons on the two deep last year. The google site lists a lot of similar stories. Y'all need to STFU about this type of thing cause you obviously don't have a clue about what you are talking about. If interested, here is some notable reading regarding walkon players:

Not meant to insult Blair, rather to give more awareness of Gilliam's journey and thus why he deserves the highest respect. Blair will be fine by game time, I'm absolutely positive. But don't be surprised if Gilliam is entrenched as a started or regular piece of the rotation.
Why are you so mad? I wasn't talking **** about him I just said a walk on starting LT isnt a good thing. This is the best football conference in the country. He was a walk on for a reason. Im sorry if I hurt your feelings or his. It's 4/2 and you are talking **** about the potential left tackle without watching him block one person.
If he's doing something he shouldn't, lets hear it. Give us some technical advice. Do you know him? What drives him? How much did he learn. How strong has he become? Maturity? Mind? Footwork? Lateral quickness? Hands? Leverage?
Give us something. Anything. That you are surprised a 4 yr kid has a chance to start over a juco says enough about your thought process.
