Walker Merrill in portal

When Tillman played extensively, Squirrel sat…and Keyton played way less.
Except for injuries and blowouts we basically played 3 exclusively. Squirrel and Keyton played when Tillman was out (a lot) Squirrel when Hyatt opted. The rest of playing time was like Merrill got 0n blowouts. Squirrel just caught passes in 3 regular season games before the bowl game. Don’t get me wrong he’s gonna be great. I’m just saying in this O if you’re not top 3 barring injuriyoure not playing a lot. Just the nature of this O can’t afford to sub breaks the rhythm.

Our lack of a rotation at receiver is going to cause problems at some point. Lost three to the portal already. Merrill hurts, the other two not so much.

If we keep scoring 40+ a game I don’t care about transfers as long as we keep bringing in talent through the high school ranks

That sucks. Merrill and Milton have always seemed to have good chemistry.

One of the few things that you can be critical of Heupel about on O is that he doesn't give other guys PT at WR. He goes with 3 or 4 unless someone gets injured.

Boo Hoo.

If that’s the reasoning then good riddance.

they are pursuing Thornton from Oregon, hard. He would immediately jump Walker. # 10 had already passed him. Heupel offense limits reps if you aren't starting and Walker feels he could start somewhere.. starting better than getting a few more reps.
Bring in them 10"$

Did you play? You honestly enjoyed all the work you put in off the field that you were OK never playing?

Boo hoo... and if guys think they're not going to get some PT then UT won't be able to maintain depth at WR.

Heupel’s job is to develop players and rack up wins.

Not to keep everyone happy

I think they need to recruit well in the high school level. So when the guys leave for the nfl we have true sophomores that can step in and contribute seamlessly. Like a revolving door of wr talent

Doubtful. Of the remaining WRs, he's probably #4 and would very likely be in the rotation next season even if we bring in someone else. And I think both Bru and Keyton are gone after '23, right? So he'd have a very good shot at starting in '24.

Why are we just assuming he would be #4? I know he is a local kid which elevates his profile around here, but Bru, Keaton, and Squirrel would all be above him. Leacock is getting immense hyped, and Nimrod and Webb could have leaped him as well if they had good Springs themselves. Seldon is also going to play some WR next year, too. And then if you factor in Thornton that means Walker is 5th at best.

This isn’t really a major loss. I would have loved for him to stay, but he was getting buried in the depth chart and WR play is never going to be an issue around here.

Dang this along with the 2 Jimmy's kinda hurts but could this mean the other young guys on the roster are looking really good? Merrill actually got some snaps this year and looked good.

It doesn’t really hurt at all. The Jimmy’s were non-factors and we’re still going to be deep at WR next year. People are just looking for reasons to nitpick Heupel because things have been going too well around here lately.

I don't agree. They was coming. It took Hyatt 1 year.

So that doesn't include being more than one deep at slot? If UT played today, who would White's back up be?
Merrill…hasn’t entered the portal yet.
