Walmart

I shop at Walmart for our groceries every week and have for many years. I go early (between 8-9am) on Saturday or Sunday, and there is hardly anyone in there. The shelves are fully stocked, and the cashiers are waiting out in front of their registers for someone to walk up.

Also, I got the Savings Catcher app a couple months ago. I scan my receipt, and it compares everything I bought to published prices from 75-80 competitors (other grocery stores, pharmacies, Freds/Dollar General type stores, etc.). If they find a better price, you get the difference back on a gift card. So far, I've accumulated about $55 dollars to cash in. At that rate, I should get 2-3 free grocery trips per year.

A quarter for your cart is odd. Sam's Club does not have bags. Do you consider them ghetto as well?

Absolutely not. You can find legit brand names at Sam's and since they sell in bulk trying to use bags would be futile anyway. They do supply the cardboard boxes however for you to bring your stuff home with if you want to use them.

The store brands are quality. Being a fat American, their $2 frozen appetizers beat the crap out of the $5-7 name brand equivalents in quality

Agree, i like aldis (and TJ's). I usually never make it there because it's not a one stop shop. Aldi has quality product and very good prices. Best value in the city.

Except the store brand Pizza Rolls. They have the consistency and taste of rubber. Everything else is good, though.

I has a story for you then. I work for the Salvation Army as a bell ringer, and I have been camped outside the door of the Pharmacy. I live in a small town that is 80% white also. These walmartians are very giving. It actually makes being out in 30 degree weather every night worth it.

I have been telling Granny how beneficial VN is, she simply does not understand the value. She thinks VN is just a site to talk BS to complete strangers. :)

Here is a prime example of the value of VN, we weren't aware of the savings catcher. We will be using it on all future purchases.

Yes, I really like it. It couldn't be easier to use. My in-laws are technologically challenged so I just told them to save me their receipts...I'll get to start doubling-up on my cash back! :)

See, everyone around here thought you were solely a flaming racist curmudgeon...then you tell us that you stand out in the freezing cold each night for charity. I just don't know what to think about you!

I shop at Salvo, but can't stand the damn bell ringers.

Walmart Raises Hourly Wages For 565K Workers

Starting Sept. 25, U.S. workers in the frontend, food and consumable, and general merchandise areas will receive at least $1 more per hour, CEO John Furner told employees Thursday.

Over the past year, the Arkansas-based retailer issued pay increases for 1.2 million hourly employees, which includes upping the average hourly wage to $16.40.

As part of its efforts to support employees over the past year, Furner noted that the company "increased ownership and opportunity, and raised wages for more than 165,000 associates" and also raised wages for more than 425,000 stocking and digital associates.

In July, Walmart also pledged to invest $1 billion over the next five years to cover the cost of college tuition and books for its U.S. employees.

I'm glad Walmart is raising their wages, but look at the numbers in the above 2 quotes. If Walmart has 1.2 million hourly employees and they are pledging $1 billion over 5 years (200 million/year) that means they are pledging $166 per employee per year for college tuition and books. You have to wonder if the geniuses that publish these press reports really understand maff?

Not every Walmart employee will be going to college.
