Want to continue sucking? Then don't hire Bruce back

So a championship wouldn't earn an exception? For example, if UT hired Pearl back and we won it all next year, but he missed the dance the following year, you would call for his firing?

What is ur point in this discussion.....I have made my expectations very clear no matter who our coach is.

Final four may have been a stretch but it's not impossible, and Mcrae and Stokes are NBA prospects. I didn't say they were lottery picks.

Chill out dude.

It would be a huge stretch. Things would have to fall almost perfect for UT to get there and then they still wouldn't make it. McRae and Stokes have to get much better if they're going to make a NBA roster.

What's foolish.....ask any coach and I'm sure they will agree

To make a blanket statement like that is not only foolish, it's just plain f'n dumb. Everything is not black and white. You must live in a fantasy world. Each year and each team has different circumstances. Do I expect to make it this year? Yes. This team has talent to get to the Sweet 16. I expected to make it last year, but the injury to Maymon didn't help matters. Did I expect to make it in Martin's first year? Hell no. He was handcuffed and didn't have that good of a roster.

It's a failure any season that u don't make the tournament....you do realize there are 68 teams that make it....every season that u don't make it will have reasons why u didn't make.....should he have been fired for not making it his first yr.....absolutely not...nor shouldhe have been fired for not making it his second yr.....but they were both failures.....if u go into a season where not making the tournament is a success.....why even play the season?

That's high comedy. We were picked to finish towards the bottom in Martin's first year in the SEC and finished tied for 2nd. I don't know what fantasy world you live in but anyone in the coaching community and that knows a hell of a lot more about basketball than you would say that we overachieved that year. By definition, that's not a failure.

If we don't make it this year, it would be a failure. I not only expect to make it, but make some noise. However, a lot of that depends on our seed and the way the games shake out.

I hope your family doesn't hold you to the same definition of success that you hold other people. I'd be willing to bet that they think you're a failure.

I hold my daughter to the same level of expectations......u can't look at what people say about u in the paper. U take what u have and fight like crazy to meet your minimum goals which has to be the tournament....do u really think Zo celebrated doing a little better than expectations or do you think he was upset bc if they had taken care of business in a couple of guys they were heavy favorites in we would be dancing.

If I allowed my daughter to think mediocrity is success then she will never be great.

Yes, you strive to make the tourney every year, but every year is different. Every thing isn't as black and white as you try to make it out to be. If you managed people with different traits and talent, you would know that.

No one in their right mind expected Martin's first team to make the tourney. Not one expert picked them for the field. That doesn't mean they didn't work their asses off and didn't try hard enough. They just weren't talented enough. So, you go get better talent. That's what he did, but he still isn't a great X's and O's coach. He's still learning. His clock is ticking.

You are confusing expectations with the minimal goals a team has. I really thought we would be a bubble team bc of how poor the SEC was and especially after getting stokes mid season so we didn't really overachieve that much to me. It's true we faced a lot of challenges to reach the tournament but a season is judged a success by at least making the tournament......what did we have to show for our season'? No tourney, no SEC championship, no SEC tournament championship...if that's a success, we don't share the same idea of success?

I do manage people with different strengths and traits as a rehab manager. I have coached several teams and even at the low level I coached I kept the expectations high for my team.

No, I'm not confusing anything. Again, any hoops expert did not pick UT to make the NCAA tourney in year 1. They were thought of a possible NCAA team in year 2 with Maymon and then they knew his absence would hurt them. They are expected to make it this year. So far, this season has been an underachievement IMO. We have 13 more games and then the SEC tourney to turn it around.

I expect a competitive team and a team that should make the NCAA more than not. However, UT will never be Ky. You can strive as much as you want, it will never, ever happen. Just like Ky will never be UT in football (well they have been lately but that's another discussion).

I don't judge a failure on something as black and white as making the tourney. Should UT make it almost every year? Yes, because they have the facilities, money and support. However, a lot that depends on talent, injuries and the coaching staff. Right now, those aren't equal.

U r crazy if u think anything short of making the tourney is a success.....true we won't make it every yr and those seasons will be considered failures.....I would rather have know on this board than all of u fans that bow down and kiss kentuckys a@@ all the time.

Talk to people in the know about what a failure and success is at UT. Yes, by year 3 in Martin's tenure, we should expect a NCAA tourney unless a number of injuries happen. After the NCAA came knocking down our door and we had a limited roster, only a damn fool would've expected that team to make the NCAA. That's not a failure.

And I'm not kissing Ky's ass. Just like they don't kiss ours in football. If you think UT will be Ky in hoops, you are truly delusional. Try that out on any board. They'll laugh their asses off at you.

When have I ever said we will be kentucky in basketball...I know some people in the know and they would say any season not in the tourney is a failure. Doesn't mean he gets fired but it can't be considered a success without a tourney bid......if anything else is considered a success we might as well shut down the program entirely.

I'd say winning the SEC regular season title would be a success. Winning a SEC tourney title would be a success. Your definition of just making the tourney as a success is skewed. There are other things you can do and be successful.

If you want to define ultimate success, then that would mean only one team is a success every year. The team that won the national title. The others are all failures. By that measure, you think everyone but the national champion didn't meet expectations.

There are different levels of success.....making the tournament is the minimal goal followed by which ever one u value more the SEC regular season championship or SEC tournament championship......next up is sweet sixteen. Elite eight, final four, then everyone's main goal of winning a championship.

Yes thee is only true winner at the end of every season and that's why we play the game.
