War in Ukraine

Because that’s how you win a war you actually want to win.
They want to win, also. But they don't want to bomb the place to oblivion and end up large Russian civilian casualties and having to rebuild.

Had the Russians been at war with the Poles or any other country, I doubt you see them using the same kid glove strategy.

No. If Putin really wanted to win, the source of greatest resistance, Kyiv, would have been dealt with first. But now, 5 months in, Kyiv is a hardened target, Zelensky walks around like he’s on holiday and no one is secreting away his bowel movements. Whatever “success” looks like now for Putin, it comes at the cost of further disengagement from the rest of Europe. He may find a short term cozy relationship with the Chinese, but they will eventually crush him.

Maybe, just maybe, we should consider the hypothesis that Putin is just a low level thug who got too big for his britches and not a master strategist.

No, the Ukrainian forces were in Donbas. He dealt with them.

The Russians could easily target Kiev in the same way they made strikes on Lviv in the west of Ukraine.

The rest of Europe right now has an energy crisis, an economic crisis and they've exhausted a large portion of their weapons stockpiles. The only option left would be for the West (United States) to try to escalate to a nuclear level.

He may find a short term cozy relationship with the Chinese, but they will eventually crush him.
Likely. But that is a more long term threat. In the meantime, Ukraine is the more immediate and existential threat to the Russian Federation.

Since this is July 4th, just curious if we all can agree that the people of Donbas deserve the right for self-determination and breakaway from a corrupt govt in Kiev?

Carmageddon: Ukraine's reserves are being sent to intercept Russian tanks in civilian cars as equipment runs out... as Putin tells his defence minister to press on with onslaught

Ukraine's reserves are being sent in their civilian cars to fight against Russian tanks due to the huge shortage of equipment as Volodymyr Zelensky desperately pleads the West for more weaponry.

Rick Hillier, Canada's former chief of defence staff, said civilian volunteers have been left with 'nothing', with one unit sent to the fronline in their cars to face off against tanks and armoured vehicles.

The retired general, who visited Ukraine, told The Times: 'They were getting into position to be able to fight against those Russian tanks and vehicles and they were using their own civilian cars.'

Despite coming up against a depleted civilian force, Vladimir Putin today ordered his defence minister Sergei Shoigu to press ahead with the offensive after seizing the entire Luhansk region with the capture of Lysychansk.

In the latest series of gains, Russia has seized the Luhansk region and has now increased its bombardment of Siversk and Sloviansk. Ukraine has been accused of targeting civilians within the Russian border city of Belgorod although this has been denied by Kyiv

Russian journalist is Locked Up in Siberian Psychiatric Hospital after posting ‘sane people are for peace in Ukraine’

A Russian journalist accused of posting 'sane people are for peace' about Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine has been locked in a Siberian clinical psychiatric hospital.

Maria Ponomarenko, a 44-year-old mother of two, claims the authorities are seeking to gag her because of her opposition to the war.

She is accused of spreading 'fake' news concerning Putin’s 'special military operation' in Ukraine.

One comment seen as against the law by prosecutors said: 'It is impossible to remain silent, knowing about the death of thousands of innocent people.'

Interestingly, Russia could have easily been bombing Kyiv/Kiev into rubble right now a long with most other cities outside of Donbas... yet they still are maintaining their practice of not targeting civilians targets as best they can and keeping gas, electricity and other utilities still intact in these areas. Had this been an American invasion, we would have done everything we could to destroy all infrastructure and civil services.

If you had any idea of how the US handles targeting, you would understand just how asinine that statement is. russia bombs rather indiscriminately, and any reluctance to target civilians on their part is due to either a lack of munitions, or simple greed - they do not want to have to rebuild anything. I assure you that in no way is russian military planning influenced by morality or the law of armed conflict.

But please, shill on. I hope putin's folks are paying you for this.

Sure Moe. Can you explain how the invading ******* Russians coming in and killing Ukrainians feather into this fairy tale message for independence? 🤡

We have our F ups too like killing that guy and those kids in the Afghan drone strike. Bad Intel gave us that target. But we hit very accurately exactly what we shoot at and don’t indiscriminately level an area like the incompetent Russians.

Yes, I agree. We do screw up. The difference is - we SCREW UP and hit civilian targets. The russians either intentionally target civilians, or just don't give a %$#@ what they hit.
