War in Ukraine

Anybody really buying these KIA numbers?
What is a normal ratio of wounded to killed? This would reflect maybe 300K casualties.
I’m sure they’re inflated as were only getting one sided data. How inflated? I don’t really know. But in the last month I can think of at least three singular engagements where Russia lost “hundreds” IE >= 200 in each engagement. I do believe the daily casualties have increased with the lack of trained troops Russia is throwing into the meat grinder.

They only have 1.1M Army active/reserve (850K active/250K reserve). Those earlier 60K active duty KIA numbers before reserves were called, maybe might be about same depletion rate...ie 200K Active Duty Casualties.
We are talking 1/4 of their manpower and all that equipment. Totally unsustainable, especially if it keeps pace for another year or so. Decades to recover.

This would be like the 1991 Gulf War US Army deployment being totally decimated.

Oh I absolutely believe they are taking higher casualties than any US operation since Korea. Even Vietnam. They completely miscalculated the quality of their adversary and have lost the tactical advantage they had early on. What quality troops they have still engaged are exhausted and in need of rotation. I really do believe they thought this would be a one week war and were completely unprepared for this now war of attrition as well as the conviction of the west to equip and resupply Ukraine. And they have not shown the resupply capability to let their fielded troops defend themselves. Or with winter coming even keep themselves healthy for fighting. I do believe it’s bad. In the 10’s of thousands. And I think the daily count will continue climb IE the casualty rate will increase. They simply were totally unprepared for this.

I wonder how their field medical treatment is though.
Seeing the US at war all these years and the number of deaths to wounded is off the charts. I bet a 10:1 ratio. Exceptional survival rates.

Look at those Civil War battle ratios..Probably about the same, but much less lethal weapons and no medical care whatsoever.

Well they have shown to be struggling at basic equipment supply like ammo and food so I’d guess medical supplies are in the same boat. I’ve read several places where they have looted local hospitals or medical facilities but no idea if those supplies could keep up with demand.

The US absolutely prioritizes battlefield casualty evacuation. Going back to Korea where we saw the implementation of our MASH units. And as you say survivability increased dramatically. They’re still a casualty but they are logged as WIA instead of KIA which is huge.

It's a guesstimate. Probably 2x actual KIA numbers. Wounded # 2x to 3x that.

Yeah, I'd say cut the KIA numbers in half (a little over 30K after doing that) then X 2 wounded. Somebody posted something a day or two ago that said Russia had lost 90K soldiers from KIA, wounded that couldn't return to service, and desertions. We probably will never really know, and make no mistake, Ukraine has lost a lot too. Russian artillery chewed up a lot of guys.

They haven't lost 90K. Maybe 15K at the most. I would honestly be surprised if it was 10K.

I very seriously doubt it's that low, but who knows. As far as military casualties go I'd say Ukraine and Russia are about even. It's been very bloody for both sides, and will continue to be.
