Well as the last year has shown us one way to guarantee Moldova joining NATO will be continued Russian aggression on their borders Moe!

With every Eastern European country that sees Russia getting its butt kicked, especially if the anticipated counterattack is successful, there will be more approaches from countries realizing that NATO offers them long term security.

What a disaster for Russia. Putin does this as part of his greater Russia land grab and ends up with NATO troops on 2000 miles of the actual Russian border, more if Ukraine wins and eventually enters NATO.

And now you see the Chinese moving in on the Central Asian Republics. The real winners could be the Chinese as they fill the Asian mainland power vacuum and take over their natural resources.

The guys who have to be sweating right now are the Saudis. They make a move to a more "balanced" approach by playing the Russians against us over the last year. So they end up pissing us off while watching Russia go down the tubes. Every time I think of the Saudis I want 2 things: electric cars and the commercial development of cold fusion

Those last two sentences are where things get tricky though.

1) The only reason for American prominence and affluence has been trade of oil in US dollars. Take that away and we just become another player at the poker table, no more stacks of the house's chips to play with. Every move we make will need to be well calculated........ Given our track record I don't trust any administration will be successful in doing this.

2) Related to part 1 if we do continue the push to electric we are basically conceding and enabling China's accent to premier power status. They control the resources. So we are basically conceding China has more of those house chips to play with making our play at the table that much more difficult.

Edit to add:

The Saudis made their play when we laid our cards on the table. We've basically announced the intent to end any significant business relationship with them in the coming years. They made a shift toward their future market in looking after their best interests.
