War in Ukraine

agreed. but in this case read "pro Russian group" as "paid by and operating for the Kremlin". going after other nations assets so openly signals they may be getting more desperate.

I'd love to see a reverse card get played by the EU hackers and shut down whatever *****y network infrastructure the kremlin has.

NATO confirmed cyberattacks could justify invoking article 5.

Poland right now.

In a more significant development, Military.com is reporting that F-22 Raptors are being assigned to the Middle East and Central Asia command due to Russian fighters getting overly aggressive during intercepts.

Russians about to find out what a true Gen 5 aircraft looks like. The Raptor is the ultimate performance fighter.

Or as the fighter guys like to say "Check six."

depending on the breadth of that attack I could see it being valid. It would be equivalent to stealing/destroying that money or whatever at any other time period.

my only complaint would be where exactly is that line. they scam grandma out of 50 bucks, are we scrambling the F-16s? Get a local mom and pop shut down? Shut down A bank? Shut down something like a utility/internet provider?

again there is a line, but devil will be in the details.

That's what happens in war. Frankly, we should be thanking Ukraine for giving our military unbelievable intel on how to counter these new threats without ever having to put American sons and daughters in harms way.

Money well spent.

You don't even know what the final count is.....

A post that will only interest me, but our band is playing a medley of tunes that includes that one.

I also misquoted part last part and left out the "else". Should be "Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me". June Allyson also pops into my head so there must be a movie version (maybe "The Glenn Miller Story") where they work the song into a movie scene.

Lasers are in the pipeline.

Army short-range air defense laser prototypes take down drones at Yuma

April 13, 2023

Downed drones littered the battlefield at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona during a live-fire test of the Stryker-based Short-Range Air Defense system prototypes with 50-kilowatt lasers, according to the director of Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office.

“When they got out on the range, they were knocking targets out of the sky, Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 [unmanned aircraft systems],” Lt. Gen. Robert Rasch said told Defense News in an interview. “Very, very effective.”

While the lasers made short work of drones, some challenges remain in taking out rockets, artillery and mortars, he said.

The best approach to drones has to be some sort of broadband electronic jamming. Laser killing is great but it depends on targeting, and small drones that drop bomblets and observe for artillery are going to be pretty stealthy. Swarms of cheap drones are going to be difficult to deal with in a one on one basis. Almost best to stay off the battlefield if the enemy has drone warfare going and you haven't figured out the antidote.
