People tend to quote Munich but keep in mind we stayed out of WW2 and won it handily because we had a solid economy and didn't blow our money fighting every little brush war around the globe like we have the last 40-50 years trying to stop the next Nazi Germany threat.

Meanwhile, France and UK rushed in to save Poland and got beat in the Battle of France. UK had to hang on and only survived because it was an island with a great navy and having a iron willed Prime Minister that spread that feeling to his people.

History says the USA is better off being isolationists and not interventionists.

It was in jeopardy when our economy suffered and we went trillions of dollars in debt. You can't defend them if you don't have a strong economy. USA won WW2 because of our economy and because FDR left us out of it long enough to build our military. Had we gone rushing head first in 1939, we would have had our army wiped out in France.

I am thinking that what happened today made Zelenskyy a lot more popular at home. USA and Ukraine just have different interests at the moment. It happens.

Why do you think we are safer by intervening? We stayed out of WW2 long enough to build a war footing and we came crashing into it with a stronger military production than all the Axis combined. Better to stay and wait it out. Let Putin overextend like Hitler and get beat.

I'm not sure about that. One thing you should do is put aside your disdain for Trump a couple of minutes and allow the idea he has a backup plan in his mind. He is a successful businessman and you don't go into negotiations without a backup of some sort.

My guess is there's something in the works on an international scale that Russia has already agreed to in spirit. Today was trying to get Ukraine on board for it, though I will give you it was the worst forum possible.

But no matter what, Zelensky showed his true colors today and I'm not sure he's going to have many people in Congress waving Ukrainian flags on his behest now. Except Never Trump Democrats of course.

I think there a possibility he wants to push Ukraine away and let Europe attempt to work this out with Russia and sit this one out. Not the worst outcome for us but that will probably seriously cramp our relations with Europe.

Either way I agree this was a bad look in the way it played out.
