I don’t think so. I think this was a continued conversation from earlier talks where Z was trying to get security guarantees (read: military commitment) from the US as part of any peace deal.

President Trump wasn’t going along, so Zelensky tried to push his luck in the Oval in front of the press, thus Vance’s “try to litigate your case in front of the media” comment.

From there, Zelensky reacted the way my boys did when they were 12, and Trump responded the way I did to my boys.

Zelensky forgot whose house he was in, had to be reminded, and was reminded.

Judging from Zelensky’s recent tweet, he either got the message, or he received valuable counsel from a trusted advisor regarding his political viability.

I think this is a good sign for those of us who want the killing to stop.

High-level Trump sources tell me the White House is now uncertain if they can get the Russians and Ukrainians to stop fighting because this episode with raised questions about whether he can move forward toward a peace deal. It also raises questions about whether US will pause aid to Ukraine. But Trump is NOT seeking regime change in Ukraine. No discussions about who in Ukraine might be a better leader than Zelenskyy. Ukrainian officials have reached out this afternoon to senior White House officials desperate to get the deal back on track. But that will not happen today, I'm told. Trump is unwilling to talk to Zelenskyy further today. When Rubio and Waltz went into the Roosevelt Room to ask Zelenskyy to leave, Rubio made it clear that any further engagements today would be counterproductive. Waltz told Zelenskyy he had made a tremendous mistake, and it was a grave disservice to Ukraine and to Americans, both. No phone calls between Trump and Putin have been scheduled. But multiple European officials have called top Trump officials since Zelenskyy left asking how the minerals deal can be salvaged. Trump fully intended to sign the minerals deal today. Two official binders were prepared -- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and his Ukrainian counterpart and the two presidents were going to sit at a conference table in the East Room and then trumpet their success at podiums. But there were suspicions before Zelenskyy arrived today that it might fall apart. Because the Trump admin had been pushing for weeks for a minerals deal signing at the ministerial level, and Ukraine had refused. Zelenskyy wanted security guarantees.US officials thought negotiations would be much harder with **Putin** so today have been been in disbelief that it has been Zelenskyy who has been more difficult, making maximalist demands, sources told me.

Zelensky doesn't want the war to end. He believes as long as the war continues he will stay President and continue reaping the rewards i.e. 💰 and continue to be treated like a rock star wherever he goes.

You know that the war could end today if Putin stopped attacking Ukraine, right?

Zelensky could say "I'm ordering my army to stand down tomorrow, and I'm resigning at midnight", and Putin could still have Russian soldiers murdering Ukrainians.

You don't really care though, because it's not really about the war ending or not, it's about appeasing Trump, and as long as Trump hates Ukraine for defying Putin's desire to dominate them, you do as well.

Congrats to Zelensky for having the sack to stand up to the two bullies currently playing president & vp.
Hopefully the Ukrainians, unlike us Americans, can be proud of their current leader.

You can make the point that Europe needs to take care of its own back yard without blatantly distorting the facts and making Ukraine, the country being invaded, the bad guys. It should be a simple idea to communicate but we got this madness instead.

It's my opinion Trump has never really liked Z anyway and never trusted Z with all that money and Trump did not care about what happened today. Trump wants someone else to be President of Ukraine that he can work with and Z maybe impeached by tomorrow.
