There is nothing fishy about it. Through human history men have always wanted power and have used military might to build empires. Putin is no different and wants to go down in Russian history as Vladimir the Great. I have become a great admirer of the Ukrainian people since the Revolution of Dignity. They overthrew Putin's puppet who used brutal methods to repress them, then their former brothers invaded and annexed Crimea, and then invaded the east and propped up rebel groups. Instead of asking for help the people formed volunteer paramilitary groups to defend their homes and country then and do so again now. If you can respect their courage, their determination, and the fact they are willing to fight and die for their country I can't help you. Perhaps we should have been investing more defense money into them instead of all the money we spent on the Afghan military who cut and ran when it got tough.

The Ukrainian government is one of the most corrupt on the planet. I can respect their courage. But Putin isn’t trying to overthrow their country and take it over.

The whole thing is weird. The Russians it seems could have easily overwhelmed the Ukraine but instead it's amateur hour every step of the way.

I truly think he thought the Ukrainians would simply lay down and didn't want to use overwhelming force. The longer this goes on the angrier he is going to get and then the gloves may come off.

I want to believe that the tip of the spear is still forging...

But the way the incredible and absolutely stupid way they handled their VDV troops leads me to believe that even Russia's more modern/elite forces will be mismanaged.

Supposedly the troops you see in Kharkiv are SSO operators. If they are using elite special forces groups for a mission regular infantry could perform that's a bad sign. Of course I have no way to verify that.

Just probing to see where the heaviest resistance is so they know where to focus the amor?

Idk, seems like suicide to just have Tigers and trucks roaming around the streets.
