mostly true but we were pursuing a strategy that not only kept us mostly independent but also allowed Europe to reduce their dependence on Russia. that strategy got a major 180 just over a year ago.

want to reduce the Russian's power? follow the previous energy strategy - it could be done while still focusing on the transition to non-fossil fuels.

If his ghost was running Russia, they would probably be in the EU and NATO right now. He loved the West and thought Russia's future was in the European family. Granted, he had to deal with a very threatening Ottoman Empire and its ally the Crimean Khanate as well as tough northern threats: Poland-Lithuania and Sweden. Pivoting towards the West strengthened his hand against the Ottomans allowing for later Czars (notably Catherine the Great) to drive the Ottomans and their proxy states out of Russia entirely.

That is a good history lesson. But the future is in Asia, not Europe. Demographics suggest this. Europe is also engaging in destructive behavior with these green energy measures, lack of replacement birth rates and fiscally inefficient economies.
