War in Ukraine

I’m in a chat where I’m the only American , I talk to Russians, Germans , Greeks , Uk, Italians , Finnish , French and the Dutch everyday .I can tell you for a fact , from the common everyday people … no we are not respected . We are “ nosey , arrogant, selfish , considered a bully , won’t leave other countries alone, try to impose our culture on them , rude , prideful , racist and loud “ I havent looked up the definition of what “ Respected” is , but I’m going to guess we are failing in the category when it comes to the common people of other countries willing to share their opinions of the US . Sending them money isn’t helping our respect levels go up either .

After a while welfare of any type becomes an entitlement - something expected but considered not enough. Entitled people tend to bite the hand that feeds them because they "deserve" more. We did the right thing with the Marshall plan, for example; but at some point we failed to figure out enough was enough. It makes sense to support allies and help others in times of need but not when the crisis is gone. Probably because we are so bureaucratic and bureaucracies have a need to justify their miserable existence, government can't and won't accept the crisis is gone and back off. The author of a book I just finished pointed out that the appointed Director of the CIA is basically a figurehead to be ignored by the Deputy Director who is permanent and really holds control - that goes for all government bureaucracies. It also defines why they prefer dems who are liberal with the purse.

Looks like Russia’s demand for oil payments to be made in rubles is getting rejected by everyone. Unsurprisingly, of course.

I'd be shocked if there weren't a few NATO snake eaters embedded with the Ukrainian SF.

It's not even fair, pooty sending these poor kids in rusty tin cans into a land they don't want to be in, fighting an enemy that they don't hate just to get walloped by an nlaw while they desperately try to stay warm.

Whattadick.

Probably toasty in tanks when the NLAWs start calling. Ever read the "Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service?

And there sat Sam, looking cool and calm, in the heart of the furnace roar;
And he wore a smile you could see a mile, and he said: 'Please close that door.
It's fine in here, but I greatly fear you'll let in the cold and storm -
Since I left Plumtree, down in Tennessee, it's the first time I've been warm.'

You were talking about using white phosphorus as the evil thing , the picture in the article show where we actually make it and would use it . Are we evil also or is it just a weapon of war ?

White phosphorus munitions have been around since at least WW1 - read any number of books about war and you find references to "Willie Pete". Sure it's a nasty weapon, but war is a nasty business, and there are any number of other things that will kill you, too. The thing is that when we start talking about banning weapons it generally means we and other countries like us give up things in our arsenal, and the other guys don't. It's basically the argument about giving up guns for safety, and then only the criminal element has guns and everyday people are at their mercy.
