Was Bruce Pearls tenure at UT more Positive or Negative?

The accomplishments were positive. The NCAA problems would make me say even.

Up until the investigation, everything was positive regardless of our opinions of Pearl. However, the state of the program he has left puts his tenure at around even or just slightly above positive.

I certainly enjoyed the Sweet 16s, #1 ranking and Elite 8. The ending certainly sucked, but I'll trade a down year or two for the 5 year ride we had.

It seems to me that the OP was asking if it was a positive for Pearl personally. In the end, did his time here do more good for his life or bad.

I am going to say it was a positive. He ditched his wife so fast that I have to assume that was going to happen regardless. Cheaters are going to cheat - he just finally got the clout he needed to make what he considered to be an upgrade. He got to live a great life for a handful of years and enjoy relatively great success at his chosen profession. In doing this, he built a persona that will open up several opportunities for him if he doesn't coach college ball again. Even with the black mark against him for the scandal, the opportunities he has are now greater than before his tenure here.

Overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

05-06, 06-07, 07-08, 09-10 were incredibly joyous rides for me even though they all went and ended differently.

08-09, 10-11 were extremely frustrating from beginning to end.

Overall, extremely positive with the exit coming at about the right point.

Right now definitely positive. 6 straight trips to the NCAAT, 2 Sweet 16 seasons, the first Elite 8 appearance ever, first outright SEC Championship in a long time, and we actually hung around the SECT and even made the SECT Championship (blew it, but still made it). After suffering through Buzz Peterson it was great.

But depending on how long it takes CCM to get it back (if he ever does), it may drop the positive down. I'm just not looking forward to this season and the potential for all the "SURE GLAD WE GOT RID OF PEARL CUZ I HATED WINNING" comments.

Until the NCAA mess, he provided nothing but positive for the basketball program. The facility upgrades, the unprecedented NCAA tournament success, the first #1 rating ever in basketball, and making Tennessee a player on the national stage. However, this last year and his departure was nothing but negative. We won't know the overall impact until the NCAA sanctions on the program are released.

Way more positive, he took this team places they never been before. Teams actually feared the vols when they arrived in every city for a game and for obvious reasons, because they always had a good team. They reminded you of the good old Ray Mears days in UT basketball history. Lets just hope CCM can keep up the tradition that Pearl left behind.

Hard for me to imagine a reasonable argument that is anything but positive.

At the very least, his tenure gave us something to look forward to while the football program was incredibly disappointing. That certainly makes it positive.

If our bb team gets hit hard by the ncaa how positive is that? I don't think people will see it as a positive if we're talking about this five years down the road.

I dont think many of the recruits would've have been there if not for pearl and no appearances in the tournament would mean you would've been where you were with Buzz . jmo tho

at least the winning and ncaa tournament runs got the attention of the possible recruits
