For the 856,495th time to all you Fulmerites. The main reason we are in this mess is FULMER. Fulmer's poor recruiting and coaching during his last few seasons led to Fulmer losing to Wyoming. Fulmer's poor recruiting led to a talentless defense over the past 4 years. It's called a domino effect. Fulmer's mistakes bring upon Kiffin. Kiffin's spurning us brings upon Dooley. Dooley is awful, but is only there because of Fulmer's mistakes. I know you non-UT students in this fanbase have a low IQ and all, but my God. It wasn't a decade ago, its not that hard to remember things from a few years back. Stupid rednecks

It is actually a good question. I think the answer is "yes." I wish better decisions had been made after Fulmer left, but it was time for him to go. He'd been at the helm for 18 years and frankly I think he was tired and burned out. It looked like he was phoning it in those last couple of years. I'll always appreciate and respect coach Fulmer, but it was time for a change.

Fulmer got the turd-ball rolling down-hill, so I personally can't absolve him of a lot of the responsibility for the condition we are in today. Hamilton, Kiffin, and Dooley all contributed mightily to the failures.

I'm shocked to see that the poll on Knoxnews is 60% pro Fulmer. We are making progress
Really tired of the same old mudslinging at our HOF coach.
Bringing Fulmer back will fill the seats with CPF loyalist and run off all the haters. FANTASTIC IDEA!

When will this moronic non-sense stop? Fulmer is the biggest reason why the program is in such a bad state now. He left no OL's. He left no DL's. He left no QB's. He left no discipline. He was no longer competing either on the field or in recruiting with the top half of the SEC.

STOP IT ALREADY. Fulmer refused to change with the game then stayed past his prime. He preached that it was a privilege to play for UT but then acted as if he were entitled to be the HC regardless of his results.

This a million times.

Our fanbase has gone full retard.

Fulmer was at the helm when the ship ran aground. Two men have come and gone who have been unsuccessful in getting us moving again. And may take two more to make it all right again. But make no mistake, Fulmer was in control in 2008. All he had to do is one stinking game...hammy was giving him very chance...
Read the Clay Travis book / account of that year

Good time jimmy.....who can tell me who that is in the puzzle?

fulmer has nothing to do with this mess.

this mess is courtesy of lane kiffin and derek dooley.

had tennessee bothered to hire someone competent, this wouldn't be a problem.

it's bad enough for the man to catch hell for his last few years, but to blame him for the current state of affairs is flat out wrong.

since fulmer has left tennessee, auburn has gone from trash to champion and back to trash again.

it's not fulmer's fault that his replacements suck

For 856,496 time, CPF is the reason for our success. He was our greatest coach ever. Thanks for the respectful post. Shows your class...or lack.

I don't disagree with most of this post except Tajh Boyd was coming in with the very next recruiting class. Kiffin told Boyd, No Thanks.... Wonder how Boyd has worked out for Clemson...Just Saying..

We could keep induldging in the "Gruden is the next HC" fantasy. I voted "no" on this post, the only reason I voted "no" is because there wasnt a "hell no". Sorry CPF, please reverse the curse.

Thank you for your well-thought-out and respectful post. I appreciate your positivity. I don't agree with you, but your vehemence probably means any conversation won't result in you seeing things my way.

I will say this, the irony of you calling others' intelligence into question and referring to them as rednecks is pretty awesome given you have a professional wrestler in your avatar.

Odds are it would've been worth it had we not been saddled with an athletic director who consulted ancestry.com to hire his successors.

If we could all have seen Dooley the Worthless coming down the pike, then most of us would've chosen to keep Fulmer on for another year.

But let's drop back to Fulmer's last season. We were falling further and further behind the SEC's elite based on our losing margins. Teams that wouldn't have come close to beating us during Fulmer's golden age were beating us, even if they had losing records as Wyoming did when they showed up at Neyland. It wasn't getting better.

A better athletic director, namely Doug Dickey, would've found a far better replacement for Fulmer than the one Hamilton ended up selecting.

We are where we stand now not because we let a fading great go as head coach, but rather because of who we chose to replace him.

If Dickey were here so would Fulmer. We didn't have much choice in replacements before just like now. Nobody wants the job & now after 2 utter failures people see that. You can want whoever you want but they aren't coming. I'd take my chances on a "has been" than a "never was".
