Was the helmet to helmet on Nico targeting?

Was it the same helmet he was wearing when he got his concussion? Shouldn't that helmet been retired?

(Never heard abbout that special helmet)
He wore a ridell revo speed flex in the miss state game (wore it myself when I played ball it’s comfortable but got a concussion in it) But the helment in the cfp was a Vicis Helment that Hendon Hooker wore when he played at UT. They replaced it with a new vicis one but went to the speed flex in the 2nd half for some reason.

It absolutely was targeting. No way to break the helmet like that without it.
If Nico had been in the throwing motion or in the process of catching the ball, it would have been targeting. However, as an unprotected ball carrier, the defender would have had to made contact with the top of his helmet and that doesn't have to be head to head.

In this case, the defender made a perfectly legal tackle and the head to head contact was closer to ear hole to ear hole. As far as the helmet cracking, I'm wondering if that is some sort of impact absorption feature similar to crumple zones on a car. I know with the old helmets you'd have a hard time cracking it with a hammer.

Vicis helmets are designed to break upon very strong impact. The outer shell actually moves to absorb the impact so that the inside remains still. The company that makes the helmets is a R&D company, no necessarily a sporting goods company. While the helmets breaking aren’t a great look in most peoples’ eyes, in these cases the players did not sustain concussions. I researched a ton of helmets before opting on a Vicis for my son to wear.

They say they want to protect the QB, then call it that way. Also the facemask on Eason was called, barely a touch to the grill not a grab, but I get it "protect the QB".
The face mask grab was unnecessary to get off the field. A pointless gift to OSU that could have changed the face of this game.

The helmets they wear today are like pillows compared to even what I wore when I was little in the early 2000s cant imagine earlier. The bladder helment with thick foam felt like concrete on your head compared to these.

I've seen the "what if" face mask brought up a bunch. In the very play just before that "what if" Will Howard throws the ball just slightly more to the right instead of slightly behind the receiver? It's a TD or a big gain at minimum. "What ifs" go both ways

Thats not a comparison with the face mask penalty. If he had thrown the ball straight down into the ground to a wide open receiver that would be comparable. Our player already had him in the grasp there was no need for the extra aggression of pulling his face mask. The play was over and we were off the field. You could say this on any play but this play ended up being huge.

It was a hard hit, but Nico was a runner, not a QB. I feel bad for Nico because he laid it all out there and didn't get much support from the rest of the team.
