Was the helmet to helmet on Nico targeting?

Was it the same helmet he was wearing when he got his concussion? Shouldn't that helmet been retired?

(Never heard abbout that special helmet)
He wore a ridell revo speed flex in the miss state game (wore it myself when I played ball it’s comfortable but got a concussion in it) But the helment in the cfp was a Vicis Helment that Hendon Hooker wore when he played at UT. They replaced it with a new vicis one but went to the speed flex in the 2nd half for some reason.

It absolutely was targeting. No way to break the helmet like that without it.
If Nico had been in the throwing motion or in the process of catching the ball, it would have been targeting. However, as an unprotected ball carrier, the defender would have had to made contact with the top of his helmet and that doesn't have to be head to head.

In this case, the defender made a perfectly legal tackle and the head to head contact was closer to ear hole to ear hole. As far as the helmet cracking, I'm wondering if that is some sort of impact absorption feature similar to crumple zones on a car. I know with the old helmets you'd have a hard time cracking it with a hammer.

Vicis helmets are designed to break upon very strong impact. The outer shell actually moves to absorb the impact so that the inside remains still. The company that makes the helmets is a R&D company, no necessarily a sporting goods company. While the helmets breaking aren’t a great look in most peoples’ eyes, in these cases the players did not sustain concussions. I researched a ton of helmets before opting on a Vicis for my son to wear.

They say they want to protect the QB, then call it that way. Also the facemask on Eason was called, barely a touch to the grill not a grab, but I get it "protect the QB".
The face mask grab was unnecessary to get off the field. A pointless gift to OSU that could have changed the face of this game.

The helmets they wear today are like pillows compared to even what I wore when I was little in the early 2000s cant imagine earlier. The bladder helment with thick foam felt like concrete on your head compared to these.

I've seen the "what if" face mask brought up a bunch. In the very play just before that "what if" Will Howard throws the ball just slightly more to the right instead of slightly behind the receiver? It's a TD or a big gain at minimum. "What ifs" go both ways

Thats not a comparison with the face mask penalty. If he had thrown the ball straight down into the ground to a wide open receiver that would be comparable. Our player already had him in the grasp there was no need for the extra aggression of pulling his face mask. The play was over and we were off the field. You could say this on any play but this play ended up being huge.

It was a hard hit, but Nico was a runner, not a QB. I feel bad for Nico because he laid it all out there and didn't get much support from the rest of the team.

If he wasn’t playing football would he still have deal? Didn’t think so. It’s almost like he’s being paid to play…….
Depends on what the contract says with the people he is endorsing. He very well could not be playing football and still be getting paid, I am fairly certain there can not be any playing stipulations.

If he didn’t take another snap for TN, he would still get paid any money he was guaranteed.

We got away with a DPI play in the end zone. There were a couple of false starts by our tackle, too - not that it helped. The roughing the passer call on Nico’s int was questionable. Nobody can blame officiating for the outcome.
That was not my question at all. I was just asking, specifically, about them bodying into Bru in end zone sideline, with ball barely over that, and no call; vs the 50/50 contact between our db and them with the ball more overthrown and they DID get the home-town call. Two specific plays. I will go back and look up the exact times if I need to. You can do same about your plays.

Sorry If I gave the vibe I was attacking you. I was just commenting.

Bru was interfered imo but they let both sides play. There was dpi on a Third down play where Thornton was grabbed. Nico rolled out and then threw towards the sideline as Thornton was nearest receiver. He had already given up on the play.

There wasn’t too much “home cooking” by the refs. We just got our butts whipped. And I don’t think a couple of our skilled players wanted any piece of it, as they were being “out physical” from play one.

I was disappointed with him, and all our receivers, as they gave up on plays. Those in my section were surprised our receivers ran such poor routes and then failed to help Nico when he was running for his life.

Maybe we can address in the portal.

Go Vols!

Lol, not a targeting penalty at all. We've gotta stop feeling sorry for ourselves, it's getting pathetic. The helmet cracked because of the extremely cold temperature.. Go swing a golf club or hit a fast ball in 19 degree weather and see what happens.

There’s no way you believe any of that **** you just typed. He is only getting deals because he plays football for TN. He is not getting paid simply for being Nico. While I’m sure there are no performance merits tied to those contracts, I would bet the farm there are clauses associated with playing football for TN? How many Nico jerseys would Nico sell if he decided to quit football and explore the debate team…… give me a break.

Nico is literally being paid to play, that’s not heroic.
If it was another qb you would be drooling at the mouth, probably post a thread we need to get this qb in the portal. Every other player on tn offense is being paid as well. Did you see the same fight from the rest of the team? No.

When you become a runner you are fair game. Targeting is bs to begin with since the offense can lower their head and deliver blows all day but the defense can’t. In this case it wasn’t even remotely close to targeting anyway.
