Cam newton, Johnny football, Tim Tebow....we don't have anything close.

So, spring ball isn't over and we've already decided that we don't have any playmakers? mkay

Fwiw, Cincy didn't lay down or gas in the 3rd & 4th qtrs. That alone will be an improvement. IMO

Meh, I was mildly impressed by the fact that they were able to win with GAs/Managers and damn near anybody with a pulse signaling in plays and running the sideline.

Showed me their coaches had done a good enough job up to that point that they were able to continue on and win.

Football is changing. Trust me, I love a simple, power scheme more than anybody.

But there is a reason NFL teams are starting to sniff around college programs to get some ideas about dealing with the newer offenses (spread option, spread, fast paced, etc, etc).

Just because it isn't the classic offense doesn't mean it can succeed.

Good post. Makes me feel better. You gotta be a little concerned.

Name me some potential big play makers on offense.

All of them have potential

But, I'm gonna wait till I see them play some ball with the new staff before definitely lable them either way.

A lot of OP bashing in this thread.

Which is ironic considering there's not a singe one of us who isn't extremely nervous about this offense and how it will work in the SEC.

I'm cool with it. It just shows two things...being a homer like bammers and not enough knowledge to have an intelligent conversation about the subject.

Well...from what I can tell the staff is not at all impressed with the quarterbacks and receivers. Marlin Lane is not on the field and you never hear them comment on Neal. My personal opinion... we don't have anything close to a big play maker. Hopefully we will and I'm sure someone will emerge but I think we are in for a long road ahead my fellow VOL fans. The recruiting is looking good. This staff seems pretty sharp.

I can't really think of any staff that is impressed during the spring. The last four sentences I definitely agree with. Having a new staff gives us something to be excited and nervous about.

If I had to pick a couple pig Howard and whoever is that big #18 receiver I've seen this spring.

I know but..... he gets it so everyone else is dumb for not becoming a sheep.. typical

Fact is he hasn't won a game against any real sec team that matters n his off could be ugly if not installed correctly.. the reason cincy never beat anyreal teams a lot was if a def had more speed they struggled n all the big boys have tons of it.

So op has the right to be concerned

How can you call yourself a Vol fan and have us losing to Candy? You are obviously a troll, or James Franklin.

Vandy lost too much from last year. It's going to be a real put up or shut up season for Clay's lover this year.

Also rather than watching the one game they played with everyone gone and our now D-line coach running the show why don't watch them against Louisville (even though they barely lost) you know the team that smashed UF this year.

Uh, what?

I'm not exactly sure there was a wealth of opportunities at Cincinnati to beat "real teams" as you call them.

They handled their conference fairly well the past 2 seasons.

You seem to be implying that Jones either can only recruit Cincy-level speed/talent, or chooses to play with Cincy-level talent.

Neither did their teams...until they were allowed to show it...this time last year Johnny Football was plain old Johnny Manziel

Which is why we are recruiting play makers. As with any offense, it comes down to execution. If our players execute at a high level, we will be just fine.

Jones gets paid to coach. Part of coaching is making the necessary adjustments, whether schematically, personnel, etc... If he's a good coach he'll make those adjustments. If not, he'll lose and get fired. Pretty simple. But thinking that he'll try the exact same thing as he did at UC in the SEC seems to undermine his intelligence, IMO.

TAMU runs a spread offense, fla, and auburn did also. Outside of Bama all of the SEC championship caliber team ran some variation of the spread attack. I know you into the traditional style of power football but with the athleticism in the front 4 these days you need to run a spread attack to counter the players like Clowney

They never played anyone that is why they didn't beat anyone. Believe me a power offense would work just the same man if the other team has more power than you the Offense will struggle at the end of the day we have to execute play fast and wear down the defense that is where this offense will flourish.
