Watching some football...bad officiating not limited to Vols'games.

True, the refs are bad EVERYWHERE this season. But with most teams, it is basic incompetence. But statistically the bad calls should even out even with blind incompetence. But since Tennessee has not benefited from the expected equivalence; I can only surmise that with the Vols it is deliberate and personal.

This is exactly where I stand on it. We’re getting screwed the worst.

The holds against receivers that Georgia and the Alabama defenses get away with needs to be addressed...

We witnessed that garbage last year in Athens..

With the NCAA as an "association" run and operated by university presidents, they are a sitting duck for anti trust violations and every lawsuit brought against the NCAA has been lost or was settled out to the financial detriment of the NCAA. Their NCAA basketball tournament rules caused antitrust damages to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), the NCAA was forced to buy up the relics of the NIT or pay the tournament owners tens of millions in damages.

Same fate is coming to the SEC unless they organize as a not for profit corporation and allow the conference to be run as a corporate structure with a board of directors reflective of each school and a chief executive officer (commissioner) to avoid the perils which have made the NCAA obsolete and defenseless in litigation affecting the sports governed by the NCAA.

The NCAA and the SEC were powerless in their current structures to prevent any aspect (in person, online, in app) gambling on their sports, particularly once the federal legislation on wagering on college/so called amateur sports was allowed.

The fox is in the henhouse and its a ticking time bomb for some points scandal or other abuse of the set up given the amount of money flowing through the conference, the SEC athletic departments, the NIL exchanges, the millions generated on game days and the handle managed by the gaming industry each Saturday,

With the riches generated by the SEC, their officials should be SEC crews only, not eligible for other conferences/working assignments to ensure they stay as sharp as possible, as fair as possible and as insulated from the cash tidal waves that have engulfed the football and basketball programs in the power 5 conferences.

The holding on the Mertz sack earlier looked like every….rush….Baron had against Bama last week. Choked out from behind, no call.

Patience, friend. The calls against Tennessee will even out soon

...against UConn and Vandy.

Did I miss the SEC and NCAA being involved in the legalization of college sports gambling?

Who is "they" except the courts and state legislatures.

Gambling isn't good for the sport but you can't pin "they" on the NCAA or SEC. It wasn't their choice.
It may be due to the legislatures, but once that was done everyone rushed to get in bed with them. Did you ever watch that Pat Macafee show? Half the show is about betting. You think they are not getting paid to do that? Who is paying $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and who is getting paid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. In case you haven't noticed, every sports show on televisions has segments about gambling and they give you the latest odds on any game. 10 years ago all those people would be fired and their shows ended immediately. This is the death of college football as we have known it for the past 70 years. It just chaps my ass to watch all the fools embracing it.

Sorry. Rant over.

Shows have what people want to watch. If people weren't interested, the business would die.

People gamble. They like it. Shows talk about it because it brings viewers, not the other way around.

I quit watching pro sports several years ago. Looks like my beloved college sports are now being scripted as well.
Refs staring right at things that should be a penalty. Then you get a hold call on a big play. Guarantee there are secret societies in sports just like in every facet of society

I said the refs suck. And I've said before if the SEC WANTED to fix this they'd take TV revenue from each school and hire full-time refs.

They won't. The SEC and NCAA are terrified hiring full-time professional refs just helps the upcoming lawsuit which will claim the NCAA is running a pro football business, which they are, and the players are pro athletes employed by the schools.

The NCAA and SEC will do anything and everything to avoid sharing TV revenue with the players.
I saw the three face masks on one play in the Georgia-Florida game not called and thought the same thing.
There is an epidemic of no/bad calls

Texas A&M with clear catch for a TD that was initially ruled incomplete. Replay looks to show good catch but after replay official inexplicable upholds incomplete call and A&M ends up settling for a FG.
In Oklahoma - Kansas game with Oklahoma down 14-0 officials help out the Sooners with a late hit OOB call that was weak to say the least and then ruled forward progress stopped on a fumble that led to a TD. Sratching my head how can they be so bad.

Last week in the Bama game I fully expected that TD catch by Squirrel to be overturned. I was shocked when it wasn’t

Your rant has merit, brother. It's become apparent that gambling & other negative influences are making a mockery of sports. Sad day IMO.

I’m pretty sure the SEC is set up as a not for profit with a commissioner and the board is the university presidents. The simple fact of the matter is the university presidents DGAS what happens on the field/court or with the officiating. They only care about the $$ being sent to the schools.

Athletic Director, coaches, players don’t matter and nothing they say will change a damn thing. When revenue drops is when the presidents will speak up.

Refs obviously have money on Miami. Dude was clearly short on 3rd down, or at least required a review and called a 1st down.

I have often wondered if pass interference (or the lack of a call on a close play) should be reviewable. It seems these days there is just toooo much of this.

It really hurts big pass play teams (like TN was).

The fact refs aren’t held accountable in 2023 tells me all I need to know. The NCAA knows what they’re doing and they have no plans on changing their money formula.
You don’t think they bet on games? Pshh refs probably have bbq at some ncaa officials houses.
wait til the IRS sees refs making over 150k on Fanduel
