With the NCAA as an "association" run and operated by university presidents, they are a sitting duck for anti trust violations and every lawsuit brought against the NCAA has been lost or was settled out to the financial detriment of the NCAA. Their NCAA basketball tournament rules caused antitrust damages to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), the NCAA was forced to buy up the relics of the NIT or pay the tournament owners tens of millions in damages.
Same fate is coming to the SEC unless they organize as a not for profit corporation and allow the conference to be run as a corporate structure with a board of directors reflective of each school and a chief executive officer (commissioner) to avoid the perils which have made the NCAA obsolete and defenseless in litigation affecting the sports governed by the NCAA.
The NCAA and the SEC were powerless in their current structures to prevent any aspect (in person, online, in app) gambling on their sports, particularly once the federal legislation on wagering on college/so called amateur sports was allowed.
The fox is in the henhouse and its a ticking time bomb for some points scandal or other abuse of the set up given the amount of money flowing through the conference, the SEC athletic departments, the NIL exchanges, the millions generated on game days and the handle managed by the gaming industry each Saturday,
With the riches generated by the SEC, their officials should be SEC crews only, not eligible for other conferences/working assignments to ensure they stay as sharp as possible, as fair as possible and as insulated from the cash tidal waves that have engulfed the football and basketball programs in the power 5 conferences.
