good grief, losing (provided that happens) isn't always a choke. I understand you like taking shots at UT but you should at least be correct when doing so

I understand it isn’t always a choke. And I commend the Lady Vols on what was a very good season. However losing both games when they have to beat you twice is a choke IMO. Just like losing the series after winning the first game is a choke as they did in ’07. Those are the only LV softball games I watch.

Maybe I am more critical but it seems they made mental mistakes that Zona doesn’t. (i.e., running on an infield fly rule out in the 1st game, running on the out in the gap in the 2nd game).

What is the infield fly rule in softball. Somehow I missed that one over the years and it confused the hell out of me. It sounded like they said the batter was out even if a fielder dropped the ball....

I can’t comment on game one as I was watching the Braves-Dodgers game, but the baserunning mistake in game two was inexcusable.

forgetting to tag up was bad but on the other if she truly didn't hear the call by the ump then you have to run when the ball hits the dirt.

I've never wanted to hit a woman in the mouth so bad.

And I've dated some really snotty women

They had the advantage both coming into the day, and led by 2 runs in this game. They blew both. They just can’t get over the Arizona hump it seems.

Losing sucks but why do you NEVER have anything good to say about any UT athletics?

I don't think it is any different than in baseball.

I am very happy with the direction of the basketball program. I am very unhappy with the direction of the baseball program, and I am very concerned with the direction of the football program.

I don’t follow any other sports closely at all. It seems the softball team had a solid season, and I watched them in spots throughout the postseason. It seems like they’re getting there, but can’t get over the hump at this point. I congratulate them on a good season, but today’s performance (losing twice after run ruling them Thursday) was still a choke IMO.

It is the same as baseball.

Thanks- I don't know how I never knew that (though I only watch Vols baseball and softball, and generally only late in the season unless it's a rival).

Now that I've read up on the rule, though, that makes the Ump's invoking the rule against us a terrible call, since the AZ girl needed extraordinary effort just to get close to catching the ball. The rule clearly says that the fielder must have been able to catch the ball with ordinary effort, AND that the rule was intended to prevent fielders from intentionally dropping the ball to get an advantage over runners. What's more, the whole thing is at the Ump's discretion.

Wasn't as bad as what the jerk-off did to the Washington girl at 3rd last night, but, according to the rule as written, that call sucked Chihuahua weenie.

Ehh yes that is the wording of the rule but if they hadn't called it you had a double play easy.

IMO a worse call was the foul tip called as a 3rd strike while we had a runner at 2nd.

To expand on my ignorance, that one confused me too. The way they explained it, if a third-strike foul tip is dropped it equals a strike-out.

I knew that if the catcher dropped or missed a straight-forward 3rd strike the batter had the right to try for 1st base, but what's the reasoning behind the 'dropped tip' rule?

The failure to call illegal pitch on Arizona (only one between both games today after an average of 8 per game in the other 3 games) was probably the greatest tragedy. Zona's coach openly said that they were not going to alter her pitching style. His argument after all was that the umpires were not consistently calling her on it. They were just calling it randomly.
