Let's look at the team that just beat the snot out of us

QB
Rb
Center (all American)
Safety (all American)
And a te (hes only 2nd string)

They only added five guys from the portal, but I'd say they had something to do with what that team did this year

Not sure who the 2nd defensive guy is after Caleb, but it was three on offense (howard, judkins and Seth til he got hurt )
And it would have been 4 had their all American LT not gone down vs Oregon.

Defense has 10 (maybe 9 as a DB may have transferred two years ago)

Offense, it was 7 or 8 depending when the game was

To start the year they had a LT, Center, QB and RB as portal

LT went down and center with injuries, so vs Tennessee it was 9 home grown or 10 if henderson was in the game instead of judkins

Do we know for sure a portal addition hasn't made the difference already? How do you measure that exactly? Is there a minimum number of portal players to qualify? Can one portal addition make enough of a difference over a season to qualify? What a bout a single portal player coming up huge in one game that launches a team, does that count?

Not picking on you, but you have to admit that's a hard thing to guage and it would seem to require far more data than we presently have.

I agree is difficult to assess the impact. I kept my reply to quantifiable "championships". So far, the portal has not been the secret to winning it all.

I don't know, literally one player could make or may have already made the difference in a given season.

No, personally I can't. I do good to follow my favorite team (UT) and it sure didn't happen to us.

My point, I guess, if it hasn't happened, it will. The portal is part of the game now, a BIG part. Coaching staffs slow to embrace it WILL NOT help there teams.

I agree. It is likely to happen. The portal is new and the sample size is small so i need to be careful about making absolutist pronouncments. But iterating my other post, it has yet to be proven to be a viable strategy for winning championships.

Are we going to do any after Christmas shopping or what? I mean I didnt think we did well enough in recruit rankings (#11) that we can go soft on the portal?

We REALLY NEED a hot WR. Nico needs reliable targets who can actually get open and catch the ball.

Good grief. And we just lost Gaston Moore to the portal. I don’t understand what coach Heupel and this staff are doing right now. I have to just hope they have a good plan. Because this isn’t gonna cut it.
