We are not a good basketball team

Your summary of the offense is total and complete garbage. There are off the ball screens that begin essentially every single offensive possessions. That's how motion offenses operate. You obviously have no clue.

Go back and watch the last ten minutes of the Oakland game.

The majority of the offensive sets under Martin end up being 4 guys standing around the perimeter, 1 guy underneath. There are little to no off the ball screens, baseline screens, etc.

As for better shot selection:

No. You try to get the best look every time down the floor.

Im not sure you've actually watched this team play. Then again, if you think Pearl's half court offense was efficient, im not sure you'd recognize what was going on anyway.

Pearl's offense was efficient in 07-08.

Feel free to watch the games this season and count the number of off-ball screens (to do so requires that you take your eyes off the player with the ball).

You do understand that the motion offense is run with on ball screens on the perimeter, and off ball screens in the post right? You will occasionally see an off ball screen on the perimeter, but if that's what you expect every possession you're going to be disappointed. That is not how this offense works.

Pearls flex offense was nothing but off ball screens, and we all saw how horrible it was.

This offense will be much more exciting and efficient once the team gets comfortable. However, its going to take more than 5-6 games to click.

In Pearl's offense there were basically never any screens. It was one-on-one basketball after holding the ball for the first 25 seconds.

Your tossing in a smartass remark to pretend you have the faintest clue what you're talking about is humorous.

In the last 8 minutes of the Oakland game there was only 1 off-ball screen. In the other games they have also come few and far between. I realize that Martin has staed that he runs a motion system. Right now this offense is rarely actually run by this team and when it is it is executed poorly.

Pearl ran into the same problem after 07-08; his teams did not execute the flex, they switched to an almost purely transition mentality, and they stalled out when games slowed down (for a more recent example, see UW last season).

This team does not havethe athletes to run and gun (few teams ever are successful at th end of the season, even when they have the athletes). Martin needs to recognize this, slow the tempo, force his players to run the offense until they have a high-percentage look, and increase their efficency. There is no reason that a team in which McBee is getting a lo of playing time should be shooting the ball with over 20 seconds on the shot clock unless the shot is a layup or an uncontested midrange jumper.

We have far too many idiots in our fanbase. The knee-jerk reactionary crowd settles in quickly after one game.

I totally disagree. Everyone?? Oakland could not even beat miss. State
his point was they were playing one of their best games and yes if any div1 team plays their a game against another team that is not the sky is the limit. We brought our a game out for duke and memphis.... sadly they both brought their b game and that was enough.

This is a better team than most expected before we played a game thats for sure. But like everything around here small minds get ahead of themselves and jump to far ahead.

When the FB team beat Cincinnati large amounts of fans had dreams of an east championship which was silly even before we lost our 2 best players in the3 next 2 games. But once the wheels fell off no one realized the team (outside of one bad game) played as well as could possibly be expected in the situation.

Same is true for our basketVols. Maui got folks all hot and bothered and we know what happens when a boy gets left hanging by the girl who never really showed any interest in him in the first place. He blames her. Calls her a tease. He never thinks about the fact she was just being nice and told him on more than one occasion she had no interest.

This team will probably play .500 ball if we are lucky and that in and of itself will be SEC coach of the year worthy if pulled off. If he was to get us to the dance with this team he deserves a line in the conversation for national COY.

Seriously before we played a game this year name 1 player period you thought was anything more than decent. None. Maymon, Golden and Mcrae people had hopes for and Tatum was certified serviceable. The rest people were praying for replacements and an argument could be made no one believed in Maymon either until the Memphis game.

Way too much over reaction on one loss. Oakland is a very good team that had only lost 2 of their last 48 games at home. UT was leg weary after the long trip back from Maui in which they got to Knoxville at 9:00 PM Friday. This team will surprise some people by winning some games they aren't expected to and at the same time, will lose a game or 2 they probably shouldn't. In the end, I still think they can get 17 to 18 wins and be a bubble NCAA team.

we do not appear to be a very good basketball team at all. Golden isn't as good as we all thought so it would appear and we rebound very poorly. The shot selection still isn't very good, nor is the d. Looks like it may be a long season. Hope i am wrong though.
wtf?????????

we're not that bad. could finish in the middle of the pack in the SEC which would not be bad considering the teams in the top half.
