I envy those of you who live in Knoxville or nearby. I'm out here in Las Vegas and they already have the NFL and NCAA Football betting lines out at Mandalay Bay. In the opener, we are -3 underdogs to Cal. I understand that Cal has a proven offense and we're still making adjustments. But we're at home! I doubt there will be many Cal fans in attendance. I was honestly thinking that we would squeeze by with a close win. The Colts are picked to win the Superbowl.

I know its at home but I figured The Vols would be at least -7......in some eyes the program has fallen that far. I mean when was the last time Fulmer and the Vols beat a top ten team at Neyland? 1999? The Vols need to win this one bad! :ermm:

nice...there was a thread not too long ago that was debating who would be favored in that game....can't remember what i thought, but i don' think i thought we'd be the dog....but i'm also not all that suprised.....

honestly, though, i'm glad we're the dog....we always seem to do better with our backs against the wall.....

Doesn't -3 mean that UT is a 3-point favorite, while +3 would mean they were a 3-point underdog?

I asked the bookie to verify because I wanted to place a bet. Cal is favored by 3 points. I played it safe and put $50 on Big Orange 6+

You are correct sir. If stated correctly, if Cal is favored to win the Big Orange would be a +3 pick...

"OFFICIALLY" the Vols haven't won at home against a top 10 team since 99.

Florida was 9 in one poll, and 11 in the other.

I also wouldn't say we "beat up on" Florida. In fact, we were pretty lucky to win at all. Wilhoit screwed up (big surprise), but fortunately got to redeem himself because of an official's bad call.

Question: how many major college teams open the season with a top ten ranked team? I know Florida ain't one of them...

I don't think I did say we "beat up on" Florida.

By the way, the call that was made was the right call. The problem was that the official missed the Tennessee player committing a personal foul first. Fact of the mater is, regardless of that call, Florida had the chance to stop Tennessee, and they didn't, and then Wilhoit still had to kick the hell out of the ball with accuarcy, I'm sure you or I couldn't repeat in an empty stadium, much less over 109,000.

Two more words for you..... Gaffney Drop.

I think Cal will be overconfident and ready to be upset in this game. Going into the fall they are gonna be hyped to win the Pac-10, and this opening line will probably grow.

If we're not favored, we should just forfeit the game. Three points is really hard to overcome.

yeah that game in 2004 was extremely close. But Florida was only ranked 11th.

James Wilhoit kicked a 50-yard field goal with six seconds to go to lift No. 13 Tennessee to a 30-28 victory over 11th-ranked Florida on Saturday night.

Just give it up oklavol, we're doomed.

Actually, I'm surprised that nobody has come by and given the old faithful comment yet...

"I'm glad, we always play better as the underdogs"

The right call?!? That's ridiculous. I'm glad it worked out in UT's favor, but you can't deny that if there's no way we should have gotten those 15 yards.

Yeah, I guess Wilhoit's screwing up an extra point and then getting a salvation field goal makes up for some referee making a bad call that helped UF win on a Gaffney half-catch. Gaffney not catching the ball is not as bad as Wilhoit missing an extra point. Fortunately, bad officiating led to both those mistakes not being so bad.

Yes, I probably couldn't kick a field goal from the 1 yard line. However, I'm not expected to, because I don't go to school on a football scholarship. Still, the kicker at my high school started for three years and never missed and extra point. Wilhoit should be held to the same standard. It's too bad there was zero depth behind him the last two years.
