We Lost Because

Playing in the friendly confines of Neyland, we handled Bama, Florida, Kentucky. We took care of a LSU team still finding its way under Kelly at Death Valley. Last night we were brought down a notch by the defending National Champions, a team used to the white hot spotlight of such contests. Its QB, a very poised and talented Stetson Bennett, played with the confidence of
one who has been there before.

This has been a special season for UT. It's not over - we will regroup and win-out !

A couple plays change this game—that Bennett scramble—if whoever that was from Tennessee makes the play and sacks him for a loss—they’re settling for a field goal. And it’s 3-3.

Also if we can score a TD on that first drive after getting the stop, the momentum shifts and all the sudden they respect us and don’t play downhill on us.

A couple of Hooker deep ball connects would have loosened up the secondary too. He hits those normally.

then how did Mizzou almost beat Georgia???

I think we can beat them at a neutral site playoff game—and we will.

because at times Georgia doesn't play up to their full capabilities. they got up for Oregon, they got up to the Vols but didn't get up for Kent or Missouri and played unmotivated games against both. I don't think there's anyone left on their schedule who could beat them but November is not the time to be sleepwalking against any SEC opponent.

I guarantee if we play Georgia again we will score more than 13. They outplayed us yesterday, we just have to learn from it and respond. The season is far from over, we have a path to the playoffs we just have to take care of our business. GBO!!!!

Georgia is simply the better team. We might fair a bit better on a neutral field but they have the talent to play tight press man to man coverage so we’re not gonna get those blown assignment plays like we did against teams playing zone. Couple that with one of the best defensive fronts and a linebacker group that is quick, athletic and extremely good at tackling and you just don’t have any easy yards. I’m sure someone tracks yards after contact and I bet it was a very low number yesterday - not because we suck or had an off day but because Georgia is just that good. They have a significant talent advantage over just about everyone and I believe are the best coached defensive team in the nation. Will Muschamp was never a great head coach but he’s definitely a great defensive coordinator.

Hopefully we’ll bounce back and be ready to play the early game this Saturday- don’t want to lose to the same team two weeks in a row.
Totally agree. Player talent gap was by far the most significant factor. At least 6 of their defensive players alone will be drafted and Ringo will either be the first or second cornerback picked.

I see many saying that they think we will fall out of playoff contention, but I don’t see that. I think our body of work speaks for itself. Even if TCU wins out, Ohio State and Michigan play each other and I think the committee when viewing an 11-1 Tennessee vs an 11-1 Michigan/Ohio State will take us because our body of work is better. And our only loss is to the number 1 team in the nation at their field. It may have been hard to watch, but I really don’t think it hurts us much. We still have a great shot at making the playoff.

Yep, it's Missouri week. Last home game. Time to show our appreciation to our Seniors and to the team.

In my opinion, it was more scheme. If they could've moved the pocket or if HH could've gotten a deeper drop on some plays, that would've helped. I just realized that the QB is in the same spot every play. That's not good when playing someone with a good pass rush.
That was pointed out during the game yesterday. Hooker sets up about 5 yards back taking the snap and never moves from that spot. Where Bryce Young for example sets up about the same and drops back about 4 yards deeper after the snap.

The reasons for the loss are multifaceted. Talent certainly is a huge part, but it doesn’t excuse how unprepared this team was to play on the road. Sure, UT could have played its best game and still lost. Still, the Bama game kind of undermines this theory.

Who played with more focus? UGA
Who had a better game plan? UGA
Who made better adjustments? UGA

Did Heupel use a timeout once in the game to get his QB out of a bad play and make an in game adjustment? Go back and watch. I don’t think UT called a timeout in the entire 2nd half.

The beating was much worse than the final score would indicate.

100% Agree,
TN players absolutely had no swagger/confidence in this game, they came out more intimidated.
GA did and played like they had no doubt they were going to take it to TN.

I think constructive criticism is a good thing. We just need to remember, we are couch potatoes judging great athletes. We went up against a much better team and a crowd that caused 8pre snap penalties. That‘s how Alabama felt in Knoxville. My biggest takeaway was Georgia tackles better than any team in the country. I watch teams all day every Saturday, and tackling is a lost art. I attribute that to a lack of contact in practice due to rules for practice and dodging injuries. Just one couch potatoes opinion, lol.

Agree, plus I notice that we plainly miss more tackles than other teams. We have done it for last several years. Like when we rush or get in the backfield and I’m expecting a tackle or sack they run past the runner or miss the tackle.
GA showed how to do it yesterday, tackle and wrap up on the tackle.
Bet several of our players are more sore today than any previous post game.

UGA straight shook Hooker. One of his worst games. OL didn't help either. Hopefully Hook gets his mind right. He wasn't the same QB . Oh well, 8-1, I'll take it ALL DAY! GBO!
Lot more on the line in this game. This was the definition of "BIG GAME" atmosphere. UGA has been there several times the past few years and they're used to it, we haven't.

I will say I'm a bit surprised we weren't better prepared for the noise. There are ways to scheme around the noise, lessen and sometimes negate its affect. Most of the time we looked like it was the first time we've been in a noisy enviroment..

All that said, I'm not worried going forward. We have already surpassed any expectations I had for this team. The coaches and players will learn, adapt and overcome.

Regroup, WIN OUT and let the cards fall where they may.....

Go VOLS....

We lost because of the fan noise.

Won't make that mistake again.

only one of four factors in my opinion;
1. GA much more talented and deeper
2. GA highly motivated because TN took their #1 spot, credit their coaches
2. GA game preparation that took TN out of their game
4. GA crowd highly motivated that TN took their #1 spot and were loud, vocal, and wild

The deeper pocket can give you more time BUT it means your tackles have to be able to out quick the other teams ends/LBs - clearly that would not have happened against Georgia (or Alabama). A deeper pocket requires the OL to protect a wider area - there is more space between the offensive linemen as they form the pocket. That means that the speed rushers getting around your tackles isn't the only issue you have - you also have larger gaps on the inside which quick, NFL caliber DTs or blitzing LBs can use to get the QB quickly.

Our shallow pocket scheme has worked well against everyone except Georgia and their defensive front is just a freak show in terms of talent. We need an OL with 5 Darnell Wrights to be able to hold off that Georgia front.

The talent gap is not as wide as you think. We have better talent at some positions.

1. Georgia won the line of scrimmage.

2. We made too many mistakes.

3. Smart out coached Heupel.

4. Crowd noise had an impact.

In what way did Smart out coach Heupel? He won 27-13 at home with a vastly superior roster that he recruited top to bottom. Heupel is in year 2 with mostly Pruitt’s players and came in 8-0 and ranked 1. It was just a mid match from a talent perspective. What worked all year long did not yesterday mainly because of the talent disparity

bryce keeps his eyes on recvs when he scrambles.hook takes off and gets what he can and for what ever reason wont throw the ball away

How many of our starters would make the Georgia two deep? I think Hooker, a couple of our receivers (since WR is about Georgia's only weakness) and Darnell Wright on Offense but I don't see any of our defensive players making their 2 deep. Thomas might be the only exception, but Georgia is extremely deep in the trenches. So I think maybe 5 of our players would make their top 44.

Georgia had a LOT more 4 and 5 star recruits than we did.

We got swarmed by their talent

Any and all coaches need talent.

Once we recruit better Heupel will be fine.

Bama had significantly more 4 and 5 star recruits than we do. Bama has more than UGA does. Yet we beat Bama.

Yeah there was a few plays where he shoulda thrown it away instead of holing it too long and taking a sack.
