You guys clearly had more talent in the trenches on defense than we did on offense. It wasn't really a new problem for us but I'm sure you guys exploited the weaknesses very well. That may be true but Ohio State's secondary got torched by Oregon & Dillon Gabriel back in October. Still have to get pressure on the opposing QB and hit him throughout the game, even if sacks remain elusive. Buckeyes rushed 4 that game and hardly ever got any pressure on Gabriel. He had @5+ seconds per pass play to find an open receiver. Hard to ask DBs to cover WRs for that long.
Ohio State was able to apply pressure last night and when the pass rushers didn't get home, they still managed to knock down several passes. Tough night for Nico Iamaleava but he competed the entire game and will learn from the experience and get better.
I was surprised to see Nico get so many passes batted down but again you guys got a lot of penetration and were close to him on several throws so getting to the throws was easier.
Without Dylan Sampson we couldn't keep your rush nor linebackers really honest. Obviously not an excuse but a few gashing runs might've helped to slow the rush and freeze the linebackers a little bit to allow Nico a little more time.
When I first saw Nico I thought he looked too skinny to survive big hits. I'll eat those words now because he stepped up, took the hits, and did everything he could to make up for Sampson not being in. He's definitely a tough young man.
You guys took and deserved it but I'll be looking forward to more playoffs and seeing more B1G opponents. Let's face it. The B1G and SEC contain the lion's share of elite football teams in the NCAA. We'll see you or PSU or whoever those guys with the blue and monkeys**t yellow uniforms are.
If you guys beat Oregon, I'll expect TX and tOSU to be the best college game this year.
