We Need A QB From The Portal

on those snaps, the WRs got zero separation bcz the OSU secondary had us covered like heat shrink wrap
The Ohio State secondary has spent all year practicing against Jeremiah Smith, Egbuka, and Tate. I don't think our receivers could show them much they couldn't handle or hadn't seen.

I don't think the route concepts helped them out either. OSU has really good WR's but Kelly did a great job scheming them open. He knew we were a heavy man to man defense with an aggressive front. He used counters & misdirection to slow the front down. He used bunch formations with rubs and crossers to get guys wide open. A ton of motion to confuse coverage responsibilites. We had a problem with the wheele route in other games and he utilized that. He even used some of the same TE routes that UGA used. Kelly put on a coaching clinic. It was basically Arkansas and UGA game plans on steroids. This is what a score looks like when the more talented team also out coaches you.
The front was slowed down/stopped by the OL of OSU. Our aggressive front couldn't even get off the line of scrimmage but that didn't really matter, their Wr's where way faster than our DB's. Our guys tried to cover man to man with back to qb...terrible. In zone, gave then 5 yd cushion.

Nico needs competition.
Freshman?
Early enrollee, REDSHIRT FRESHMAN if I’m not mistaken.
Big difference between this and a true freshman.
That would be over 2 years in the system.
Not live bullets when redshirting. Hooker was an upper classmen with a covid year whene he came here. He wouldn't have been what he was at the end in 2022 had he came here as a freshman. Heck in 2021 he was better than Milton but not what he was the next year. Let's give Nico his fair chance to get another off season.

Bad decisions. Takes too long to throw it. Not a dual threat. Not accurate consistently, at all. Fragile.
Did you really call him "fragile"?? Dude took a hit that cracked his helmet. He ran multiple times on his own because we couldn't get anything going on offense. GTFO with this stupid take. He needs help. Online and WR

People love acting like redshirts = 6 year seniors

Agree that he should be better now, he is not a freshman anymore, but no QB will be coming in from the portal. Hype's history at TN shows that once he settles on a QB he won't change unless the QB gets hurt. (and remember Hooker only got the job from Milton because Joe got hurt)

Nico just may not be able to run this offense like Hype wants it to run, ie Hooker, so seems to me, they should modify the O to Nico's best skill sets cause he has the job until he leaves.
Everyone forgets Hooker was in his 6th season of CFB.

Never seen a 6 6” QB have so many passes batted down.
I am all in on Nico, but he still has things to work on and this is one of them. No reason to get that many passes batted down. He threw a few right at them right in front of him. He has improved and hopefully will continue but nobody is free from needing improvement. Wide receivers have to help most of the night last night there was zero separation. Everybody has things to work on. O-line has to meaner tougher stronger.

I think Nico is going to ok.
While I understand not as much game experience, even though he did start the bowl game, he a had a lot more experience than a true freshman. Practice does definitely matter learning the system.
Nico needs competition imo.

Jesus. I’m a troll on here and even I think this is stupid , he was the only one I saw trying to do something yesterday, can’t blame him for a weak O line and no WR getting open

Ole Miss and Texas have had the same starter for 2+ seasons…. Not like they picked up a fresh starter this past off season

And Riley Leonard wouldn’t have left Duke if Elko didn’t take another job.
It is just odd that out of the 8 remaining teams over half the starters are transfers. Correlation without causation probably

Different system I think
So what we need is another QB then because if Nico doesn't fit this system by now he isn't going to next year.

I did really well in grade school with the whole square peg and round hole test. And then there is something about silk purse and pig's ear. None of this is rocket surgery. I'll take a 3 star that fits the system over a 5 star that doesn't. i.e. Tom Brady/Ryan Leaf say hi.

And people talking about Nico being a redshirt freshman act like last night was his first game. His throwing has improved minimally if at all over the season. Yeah he's tough and he can run, but QBs make money throwing the rock. He's a marginally better passer than Joe Milton, and even that's a stretch.
