Yeah can you name the conference that Knecht came from without looking it up

You can either be lazy and simply form the opinion "oh he played in a lower conference so his strengths as a player won't translate" or you can look at what his strengths are and attempt to project them. There are things he does offensively that you can tell will translate even when defenders are better than what he faced. It certainly won't be at a clip of 20 ppg because some of the scoring was due to bad defense. Ledlum scoring around the rim is a much bigger wildcard. How Knecht scores translates well. Ledlum might be able to score in the paint but that is much harder to project.

I was looking at the Torvik Projected 10 contributors for next season. For the starters PPG it has:
- Santi at 14.1ppg
- ZZ at 11.9ppg
- Ledlum at 11.5 ppg
- Knecht at 10ppg
- Aidoo at 7.6ppg

I could see it

Didn’t you just say you could see 6-7 in double digits too?

Add in FD at ~10 per night and that’s as balanced of a scoring team as you’ll find.

I think the ZZ and Ledlum projections are a bit high, but Freddie should supplement the guys listed and like many I think Mashack makes a leap and will be able to score a bit

Barring injury, I’m going to be disappointed if Aidoo isn’t scoring double figures. JMO

That same projection has FD at 4.4ppg
Sheesh. I would think that’s an undersell of his potential, especially considering the staff clearly sees him as a good option at point. That said, if he’s gonna score around double digits, it’s probably coming at the expense of others. If we have even 4 guys scoring double digits and accounting for ~50 per game I think we will be extremely happy with the offense next season.

I just look at a guy like Key who averaged a lot of points in a bad conference and came here and did poorly

Look at the type of shots that we scored on at Indiana State. I think from a projection standpoint it was obvious he might struggle to get the same types of looks to fall in a better conference. And that is exactly what we saw. Context matters. You saw we tried to put him in some of those same scoring opportunities but he couldn't capitalize. He was good at essentially "posting up" guards in that conference and scored with good efficiency doing that. We ran some of that to him and he could not score like that vs SEC defenders.

That’s not necessarily true. Run the numbers and you’ll get your answers.

Run the numbers? It’s not a complicated situation, there just aren’t that many scorers like that from P5 conferences in the portal on any given year. Feel free to send me a list.
