We need to call out Scotty

No one is saying he was the sole reason we lost the game. But pretending like it was good he took a shot with 12 seconds to go and that it was good that he failed to contest a crucial three is ludicrous.

he had a good look, he took the shot. IF his arm was not hit on the release that ball was in and everyone here would be singing his praise. We had several players no contest shots in this tourny. to call one player alone out is ludicrous. I will agree he gets down on himself way to much though. The shot was a good shot IMO.

I completely disagree. You simply don't take a shot with 12 seconds to go when you can take the last shot. I was hoping Bruce was going to call a timeout with about 12 seconds to go and set up a play. However, Hopson didn't give him that opportunity.

That's debatable when you are down by one. Take the last shot or take a shot and give yourself a chance in case you miss.

He should have at least taken it down to 7 or 8, though.

Am I the only one that has played bball? (Rhetorical) The set was not for him to shoot. He did what you all have been hounding him to do. Shoot when the look was there. He was going to penetrate, only they dropped under the screen and left him 4 or so feet to pull it. He did. I'm with Snypes, the ball was going in. Funny thing about it is, had he passed on the shot and we happen to still lose. There would be 25 threads about how he can't take the big shot, and how he's scared. Lay off of him, he's a effn sophomore. I wanted him to make the shot too, or for him to lay out for that looseball on the dboards. Tough shyt. Why isn't there a thread questioning MG's toughness? He had a loose ball he couldve dove for too.

Yea, I think you take a shot at a point that allows you to possibly rebound and get a putback. But that's probably taking the shot with about 5 seconds to go, not 12.

Witch Doctor, I agree Hopson definitely has had his good games this year, including the Florida game you mentioned, but none of them were in the tourney.
Kids a Soph. I prefer to give him the benefit that he still has two years to develop his game...kids like Walls and Cousins make it look easy and not every McDonald's All American is a "one and done". I think Scotty knows this is his team next year. He didnt have a great tourney but he is part of the reason we made it there. Witch Doctor prefer Big-Picture..
Go Vols!

Because people watch him play defense like a machine. If Hopson played with Goins' effort, he wouldn't be questioned.

You might want to tell B. Williams and the other guys because unless Hopson's mental approach and effort does a 180 (which hopefully it will) his teammates will not follow him

I think B. Williams is going to be a monster next year if he keeps this mind set. The kid stepped up his game in the tourney 100%. I think he could be a force next year...just like Hopson they have the game just need to get it to the court!

Brian Williams will be your teams vocal/senior leader next year...kids done a 180 for sure..

Agreed that M playED great D. What about other games he didn't? See where I'm going with this? The games in which he was productive weren't in the tourney this year. Melvins were. It can be flipped flopped. And you can plug different "Verbs" and names in all day long.

Not really. And I'm not trying to pile on Scotty or hate on him, but facts are facts. No one played with less effort this year than Scotty.

It's sucks, but I have to agree and really don't see how some don't see this.

Bruce had plenty of time to call a timeout and set up a play, but he didn't. You know If that shot would have fell you would say that it was a good look. Now if he takes a fade away from 30 ft with 12 second left yes i would agree, but we are talking just beyond the freethrow line with a clean look. You have to pull the trigger on that. he got fouled end of story. I'm done defending him though. Good game for all the players in Orange, and a hell of a run!

Witch Doctor remember a time not too long ago that no one on this board would even be talking B-ball not much less at the end of March(VOLS). I guess I prefer to see the silver(orange) lining. Bruce is building a top notch program. Bruce will get Hopson where he needs to be...how can anyone question Bruce? lol.

we had the last shot to go to the final four...thats how far we have come!

True, he really stepped up in a major way. Hopefully he can do it for an entire season.

I would like to see him try and develop a face up jump shot 10-15 ft out.

My only point is to not trash the kid for God's sake. He's a young man, and a part of our program. Not all of you were saying wreckless things but to those of you who were, 98% of you would "flop" (no pun intended) under the pressure the kids got on him. And you'd do it quicker than I can say Scotty Hopson.

I'm not personally attacking him. He's probably a good kid.

Cool, I was generally speaking for the most part. No ill will towards my lawyers out there. =) I kind of prefer the WD approach of givin him the ben of doubt. Nothing about him tells me he doesn't try and doesn't want to try. He's got some issues, no doubt. But I've not given up that his intensity resorvoir (sp) can be tapped into. God knows there's plenty left. The perception is that he sulks and isn't "into it". I just think there's more to it than that. I refuse to believe that 5+ coaches, 10+ teamates and dozens more close to the situation wouldn't "call that out" His personality is such that it often seems as though he's not trying when he quite possibly is giving 150% to battle his own issues, which may take away from his ability to focus. I'm not a doctor and that may not make ANY sense, but I don't think he doesn't "want it" or "care".
