I have a question for all of you who are calling the OP crazy for his prediction. How many of you HONESTLY predicted Auburn going 12-2 and playing for the NC after going 3-9 the season before?

Answer? None of you did. I am not saying it will happen, but it could.

I thought they would contend for the SEC West, but comparing the two situations is impossible.

Yeah right. So a team comes off a 3-9 season and you thought they would contend in the toughest division of the SEC? Based on what? Sorry but that's BS.

I agree with you and in 07 everyone remembers us getting the brakes beat off of us by Florida and we still made the SECCG. If it was down to a 9-4 SEC team and a 12-1 Big 10 team, it would be interesting to see who they would pick.

The one loss team...that'd almost be a no-brainer for them.

There's no automatic conference champion requirement set up with this new playoff system. Just being the conference champion won't get you in (nor is it necessary), unless you're looking at a beyond-bizarre year where pretty much every team from the major conferences all have at least 3 or more losses....

To be fair, a lot of people thought they had the talent already built up, the issue just being the coach was bad, and a good/better one could win (fairly) quickly with what was there.

It's not terrible to say someone thought they'd "contend"...I mean were he saying that he "called it in August that they'd totally win the conference and play in the national championship," that'd be a different story.

I did. I thought we could beat them, almost we are not too far away.

I'm a glass half full kind of guy myself, so please don't take this the wrong way- but what on earth are you basing this repeated assertion on? The "two or three plays away" just doesn't hold water in this instance. In reality, we were "two or three plays away" from getting beat 50-0. They beat us worse than we beat Arkansas State.

I think we have shown flashes during the season that we could be great.

If our line was playing more cohesive and if it was a little more experienced, that game goes deep into the 4th.

SO you are saying that if we had a better team we could have been more competitive? That's actually the first time you have made sense
