We the People Will Build the Beautiful Steel Slat Barrier

So you're saying the facts do show we need a wall but now since it's Trump you have to say no.
Not really.
There needs to be a continuation of efforts to make our border more secure. There are many areas where a barrier is already in place. There are areas with no barrier that could benefit from having a barrier. There are areas with no barrier that need no barrier. Trump has poisoned the word wall. That is why he and his staff are changing the terminology. Trump overly politicized the wall during the primaries in a way to appeal to the worst instincts in many. He knew his only pathway to winning was being the most divisive candidate. It worked, but he poisoned all the fruit along the way.

Oh you did.

I was unaware illegal alien numbers crossing our Northern border was much of an issue. Can you provide numbers that support this assertion?

Mexicans wanting to illegally enter the U.S. are flying over it first, landing in Canada and then walking south across the northern border — sometimes with the help of human smugglers, according to the RCMP and U.S. Border Patrol (USBP).

People crossing the border between Vermont and Quebec have paid smugglers up to $4,000, usually payable when the immigrants reach their US destination, according to officials and court documents.

While the Trump administration fortifies the southern border, there’s growing concern over the number of foreigners entering the country illegally across the porous northern border with Canada.
“They are very well organized. They have scouted the area. They have scouted us,” said U.S. Border Patrol Agent Richard Ross. “Basically, we are not dealing with the JV team; this is the varsity.”
Driving the increase here, officials say, is the ease of entry into Canada, where visas are no longer required for Mexicans, and a border that receives less scrutiny and resources than the southern border, where thousands fleeing violence in Central America are being detained.

Though I admit to skimming and might have missed something I still don't see numbers that look particularly concerning. (at least not in your provided links) That people will cross illegally at all was never really in question.

I share a property line with a 30 acre camp for youth with behavioral health issues. They’d elope and come on to my property. Guess who doesn’t come into my property anymore?

Idiot. But thanks for stepping in that one. Please continue. You are making this so easy.
You live in Wilson county?

You don't really think they're trying to walk off the entire stretch of the border with Mexico do you?

From 2000-2017 the least number of Southern border apprehensions* annually was over 300K. Seems fair to start there.

*Note that's actual apprehension...not total crossings.
That will not happen anytime soon. Seeing as how the border is unprotected, I would imagine apprehensions would be pretty low.

Trump has backed off of that idiotic desire but I've seen at least 2 posters on here today claiming they support walling the entire stretch.

My original question was at what point does it become particularly concerning? If you base it on apprehensions, wouldn't that require the borders being patrolled? I could easily reduce the number of apprehensions on the southern border; just cut the number of border guards by half.

Sooooo, there's nothing to indicate any particular issue with large numbers of illegal Northern border crossings?
Sure, I just provided three links stating it was a growing problem.

You guys fear the terrorists coming in. Don't you think it much more likely they would just fly to Canada and cross easily. After all, they're sophisticated and well funded.

You don't grasp (or are more likely trying to avoid) the idea of large numbers that keep coming up. Currently there is no possible way to completely shut down illegal crossings on any border. It is literally currently impossible. Now moving forward from that premise if you can't even remotely compare the numbers between the crossings at the two borders then there is not going to be a similar response. If illegal crossings become comparable then so should the response. Pretty simple really.

Thousands at a time. Are you really going to try and compare the Canadian border to the Mexican border? I mean if you are I probably will not waste any more time with you.
They are both borders we share with neighboring countries that are being crossed by illegal aliens; one increasingly so (Canada) and one decreasingly so (Mexico).

The point that is not being grasped is that anyone illegally crossing the border is concerning. How concerning and what to do about it is what is open for debate. The right continually tries to portray the left as wanting open borders and failing to take the safety and welfare of our citizens into appropriate consideration. That's just simply stupid and ignorant. If some nationalist radical starts screaming that the Canadian border is insecure and needs a wall, and that if you don't agree with him you must be some open border globalists, you would see him for the idiot that he is.

Adorable dodge. As previously stated over the 17 year span of 2000-2017 the LEAST number of Southern border apprehensions (and, again, that is NOT the number of actual crossings) annually was over 300K. Trying to insert the "anyone", or any small number for that matter, argument is simply setting up a straw man. If and when the Northern border looks to be as exploited as the Southern then it becomes a relevant discussion. Short of that you're just trying to argue your way out of a comparison you never should have used in the first place.

You missed the whole point.

1300 out of 2000 is already walled or fenced. 3 to 400 remaining, because of geography, can't be walled.

And to comment on your Canada links. That's a pretty wealthy Mexican that can afford a flight to Canada. If they're poor and just wanting to work who is buying the plane ticket for them?
