We were the best team in the country this year...

Several teams blew UNC out of the gym this year. They just turned it on at the right time.

This. They looked like a collection of blue chip INDIVIDUALS every time I saw them this year ... Then they gelled at the perfect time. They deserved what they earned.

I still can't fathom how we lost to Michigan. The pressure was on and JJJ and Santi just couldn't hit their shots. It's baffling. We just needed one of them to kinda show up. But we went cold from 3 and couldn't overcome it. And on top of that Dickerson hit multiple 3s on us. Just really unfortunate considering how well KC played...

Nightmare scenario. JJ & SV were insane in the final month shooting wise. That's how we got our hopes so high. Then one 40 minute correction ... Uggh. That's March Madness tho.

... But, on a different note. Barnes is pun-intended filling the Barn with some serious talent. That is what it take to make a FF impact. I've never seen us with as much POTENTIAL at the 4/5 spot. Seeing what Bacot & McCormack did for those finals teams has me excited to see BHH, JA, & ON develop next year. If Edwards is as advertised and starts day 1, them the development of the bigs and other talent could make waves in 22-23 ladies and gents.

Some of you don’t get it.

Barnes is not nor ever will be a tourney caliber coach. He cannot get his teams, any team, deep into the tournament because he simply cannot execute a one game scheme against a team from another conference.

Winners don’t complain about bad seeding. We were flat out beat by scheme during the Michigan game and our ball movement was horrendous. They on the other hand were going inside and out and moving their big men to the top of the key to create spacing and back door cuts.

I stay out of this forum for the most part because the level of insanity some have here is maddening in regards to Barnes hypothetical ceiling. It is and has been for decades more often than not the second round.

But yes, this team player wise was top 4 and should have made the final four. This exact team coached by a Pitino level coach probably wins it all.

“Barnes is not nor ever will be a tourney caliber coach.”

Yet he won the SEC Tournament. Something that the seven TN coaches before him failed to accomplish.

In the NCAA Tournament, Barnes has 3x Elite Eights while TN only has the one.

I dont think teams from other conferences play in the SEC tournament.

Vols were a very good team this yr but were not the best team in the country. Not being negative here but realistic, even if we had beaten Mich we very likely would have lost to Nova just like Mich did. As already said by many in this thread, Vols lost to Mich due to 2-18 shooting from 3 and our bigs could not even slow down Mich's big guy. Not the refs or anything else.

Probably should have kept it that way

Watching these teams in the final four, and I think this was our year. We just got screwed by mis-seeding and we ran into a Michigan team that played their game of the season against us.

That giant douche Dickinson would have fouled out easily had we had a Kentucky jersey. And honestly, we should have been on UNC’s path had we been appropriately seeded.

Would love for us to drop a serious lawsuit on the selection committee to prevent this bogusness from ever happening again.

Legit we should be watching the Vols tonight...

Lulz…so easy to post this crap….”I like the Vols, therefore I pronounce them to be the best team in the country!” Never mind the on-court reality.

I’m sorry, but all this “UNC clicked at the right time” is such garbage.

I’m not sure what film opposing coaches were watching, but the last 15 minutes of Baylor vs UNC laid out the blueprint of how to beat UNC

Run. A. Press.

UNC was pathetic under pressure. Turnover city!!!

Baylor abandoned the press in OT of that game because…I have no idea why.

Duke had no press. Never attempted a press. Dumb dumb dumb.

I will say this also, all year long I wondered why Tennessee didn’t get pressed more. We couldn’t even inbound the ball.

Then I watched UNC and thought, somehow, we are better than that.

So what’s your solution should we fire him and hire another coach?

That’s a fair question.

I don’t think you fire him but you do actively seek future replacements and if he tries to pull a UCLA again you don’t match and find a high quality replacement.

Barnes has done a phenomenal job at solidifying our program as an above average one now. I just believe that to get to the next level of elites it will take someone else.

11.1% behind the arc vs Michigan.

Shots weren’t guarded. They were open.

Shots weren’t from odd angles. They were corners.

Michigan vs. Tennessee - Game Summary - March 19, 2022 - ESPN

That’s it. That’s the game. That’s all.

Vols won the SECT for first time in 43 years.

Beat UK 2x
Beat Auburn.
Beat Arky.

Zeigler.
Chandler.
BHH.
Uros.
Aidoo.

These players were essentially non contributors or literally non members the previous year and became core.

The team got better as the season went on
Players led the team and it’s growth

Don’t be an idiot.

We need an offensive presence in the paint to get to the FF. We lacked that all year. When we're not hitting our 3s we didn't have an inside game to go to

My Bad. You convinced me. Barnes record of never winning a championship, having a .490 lifetime tourney record, and being bounced EVERY single year in the first two rounds since 2008 except for one sweet 16 is all his players fault and has been for decades. Him constantly losing to worst seeds is not his coaching either.

It’s not due to him at all.

Sorry. I can see your logic. My mistake.

Just hand me the koolaid and I’ll shut up.

Tennessee was as good a defensive team as I saw and far better than most in the final four. Inability to score inside, except for chandler drives, killed them.
