If I understand the process correctly, wins vs ranked opponents only applies to the playoff poll. It doesn’t matter who is ranked in the AP poll when we played them.

Alabama and LSU will be ranked tonight. Kentucky is on the fence. Pitt and Florida will not be ranked. Georgia will add to our number of ranked opponents next week.

How are you supposed to rank teams based on their wins against a ranking that doesn’t exist yet?

That's incorrect

Alabama and LSU will be ranked in the playoff poll tonight. We beat them so that will count as two ranked wins. Kentucky depends on if they are ranked in the playoff poll tonight.

Pitt and Florida are not good so they will not be ranked. This takes out the preseason polls skewing the number of ranked opponents. The AP polled thought Pitt would be good and turns out they are not.

From what I understand, the playoff committee looks at every teams full resume on the year. No matter which way you slice it, Tennessee has beaten 5 top 25 teams.

No, it's correct. Why should Ohio State get credit for a Top 5 win for beating ND, when ND sucks? UT and UGA played the same Florida team, are we supposed to get a ranked win for beating Florida and they don't? It's the same team. The committee will look at how many wins each team has against teams ranked in their Top 25 tonight. We will likely still have three (Alabama and LSU for sure, with UK probably sneaking in at 24 or 25), that's more than any of the other contenders.

Man...

Go look back at LSU 2019 and how many ranked teams they beat.

Some of them didn't finish ranked either but WHEN they played they were.

Not to mention that helped shoot them up the rankings so that they could be the #1 team.

It's not that hard to figure out man...

There's a reason they aren't ranked after we play them.

Playoff rankings should also take into account the strength of the team at the time the game was played. Beating Alabama with Bryce Young is a whole lot harder than if he's on the sideline.

Key injuries and/or illnesses can drastically reducea team's effectiveness. Just because a team slides in the rankings doesn't mean they weren't legitimately ranked earlier.

Go read the article by ESPN on how it works. This takes the preseason polls out of the mix. It explains why it is this way. Florida and Pitt will not be counted as a ranked opponent/win. It’s a fact.
