We will only have two maybe three ranked wins

Go read the article by ESPN on how it works. This takes the preseason polls out of the mix. It explains why it is this way. Florida and Pitt will not be counted as a ranked opponent/win. It’s a fact.
No one cares. I mean less than no one cares. If we beat Georgia most likely we’re in the playoffs.

doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. just gotta keep our sh** together and keep winning….nothing else matters.

it’s all about how we handle the success

Well, to test your logic, what if team A beats a ranked team with a star qb in week 2 and team B beats that same team in week 5 after that star qb was lost to injury (in week 3 for example). Those are NOT the same teams and some credit must be given for the ranking during the week that team A played and defeated them.
Well the CFP Committee states separately that it takes injuries into account, so that covers that situation.

It is difficult to interpret the rankings thing. Some teams have gotten better as the season has progressed, others have gotten worse.

Ranking teams is all an eye test and they will move the key things they look at to match what there eye test tells them, this takes into account how good teams were at the time games were played. You can’t measure it by ranking at the time because you have highly inflated teams as mentioned here and you can’t do it wins vs currently ranked teams because of injuries and the fact that you would have no basis with which to start the ranking because there are no ranked wins until the committee itself decides who the ranked wins are.

This thread ended up being a waste of because none of the OP's fears were realized and UT is #1 in the first rankings. As long as they keep winning there is nothing that will change that. No one in the country will have a better SOS

It was said by someone on the committee that we are ranked #1 because we are undefeated and have wins over LSU and Bama. That means if we beat #3 Georgia, no one can take #1 away from us if we win out. And, if we beat GA and lose a close one in the SECCG we will still make the playoffs and Hendon will still win the Heisman. If we don't win vs GA, then our destiny is in other hands. This game is a HUGE opportunity for our program.

Not really discussing the mysteries of how the committee values a body of work and how the needle is moved according to whatever agenda is in place. Im speaking of how fan bases 'write-off' certain wins.

Well we WERE discussing how the committee values a body of work and what "ranked teams" consist of for their purposes.

What YOU were postulating was the notion that you have ANY clue what the freaking committee will do in any given year. MY point was that the committee will give so called "reasons' for what was done and how it was achieved but anyone with 2 brain cells knows that its bogus and is only wordsmithing to justify whomever they deem to put into the final four. You are possibly someone who thinks the SEC could in any conceivable way get 3 teams into CFP. Tell me, oh wise one, how Clemson is above Michigan in your intimate knowledge of the committee? NO way this committee allows 3 SEC team and they will use whatever wording is convenient to justify. Bogus is all i'm saying.

Well based on the first CFP poll, at this point we have a stronger resume than other teams. We have wins over two teams in the top 10. UGA is the opportunity to add to that list.

ALL THESE WORDS ARE CORRECT... Negavols and Nervous Nellie's should calm down and enjoy being great. Everything else should be icing on the cake.
Its not so much negavols, this is a troll thread.

If I understand the process correctly, wins vs ranked opponents only applies to the playoff poll. It doesn’t matter who is ranked in the AP poll when we played them.

Alabama and LSU will be ranked tonight. Kentucky is on the fence. Pitt and Florida will not be ranked. Georgia will add to our number of ranked opponents next week.

“Only” three ranked wins?

Can you please identify the other programs that have more than that? As many?

I’ll hang up and listen.
