If I understand the process correctly, wins vs ranked opponents only applies to the playoff poll. It doesn’t matter who is ranked in the AP poll when we played them.
Alabama and LSU will be ranked tonight. Kentucky is on the fence. Pitt and Florida will not be ranked. Georgia will add to our number of ranked opponents next week.
I heard the same from a lady reporting on the finebaum show yesterday. She said they look at who is ranked in the playoff poll as there go to. Not AP rankings. I don’t know if it’s true or not but she seemed very knowledgeable. Also very high on the Vols citing SOS and doing what they should to teams inferior. (Used this AGAINST Clemson)That's incorrect
Yeah, I didn’t take it as being negative at all. Just stating what they will look at and is very relevant considering the playoff rankings come out tonightOP isn’t saying we are not good…in fact, he predicts we beat Georgia! He is just noting how the number of ranked opponents is determined by the playoff committee. With 3, we are probably still in a better position than any contenders. We unfortunately, just need to become fans of FL and Pitt.
From ESPN…
4. Where are the contenders' opponents ranked? The selection committee wants to know how many wins a team has against top-25 opponents -- the committee's top 25. Forget the Associated Press Top 25, and what you think were wins against ranked opponents (sorry, TCU). Those determinations begin now. Is beating Maryland (6-2) a top-25 win for Michigan? Can three-loss Notre Dame sneak into the rankings and help Ohio State's case? Is three-loss Kentucky still a top-25 win for Tennessee? Is Georgia's win against Oregon its only victory over a ranked opponent? How impressive is Clemson's résumé after Wake Forest and Syracuse both lost Saturday? Does Alabama have any wins against ranked opponents? Its best wins are against Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi State, all of which have three losses. And if none of the Tide's opponents are ranked, scroll back up to No. 1 on this list and say a prayer.
