Welcome Home, Mike Keith

“Buckeye” Bob actually played at Tennessee, fwiw
Bob is almost done(is done with football ) and people still can't resist taking shots at the man. Almost seems personal. No idea what he's done to some of these people. It's fine if people don't like the job he's done( I think he's done ok but clearly not as good as Ward or Keith) but I don't get the rampant dislike for him.

In my humble opinion Charles Davis is one of if not the best announcers out there and that’s nothing against Mike Keith . I like the guy and think he will do great but Charles Davis is in another class altogether.

Charles is a Color Commentator. Mike Keith is a Play by Play Announcer. Not even related, other than both are considered Sports Broadcasters.

Color me in ORANGE shock. Never thought this would be in play enough to have prejudged this. Anyway, welcome home.

Have always appreciated his side jobs on signing days, etc. but have not been an unabashed fan of his Titans play by play. Have him on the clock, bet that has him worried.

Who had to pull this off? It has to be considered a win I would think.

Edited to add….. evidently I muddled his bio with David Keith, evidently his cousin. Knew of a Keith estate sale off Chapman Hwy just a few years back. Best I can find is Chattanooga elementary years and BGA HS. Can’t fill in the blanks till UT.
Yes, born in Chattanooga then moved to Franklin during childhood. Went to BGA with my older sister. I’ve frequently run into him at BGA alumni events…just a great guy. Has always loved UT.

He may not have had the style of announcer I gravitate to, but I had no real problem with Kessling. He was fine. No need to run the guy down. A VFL as a player and broadcaster.

Yeah I mean I get being ready to move on from Bob, but the fact that multiple people through the years bash him as a Buckeye is strange. It’s always people his age who neither attended, nor played at UT too, unlike Bob who ran through the T, got a degree, and worked for the university for decades.

Wikipedia says Mike Keith born in Franklin Tenn, 9-11-1967. David was born in Knoxville. Chatt Times says Mike was born In Knoxville & Raised in Franklin. How can they get it wrong (somebody)

Yep. Bob has slipped quite a bit in these last couple years. BUT we should overlook that and give the Man his props. He dedicated his life to UT. Good Job Bob!

I just wonder if he didn’t want to follow John Ward. How often does it turn out poorly when you follow a GOAT.

Nothing to do with it. Those "in power" within the Vol network chose Kesling quickly. Within a week to ten days after Ward announced he was retiring, Kesling was in the seat directly behind Ward at the next game. It was a done deal in short order.

If that is indeed the case it was likely fortuitous for Mike as now it won't take much to outshine his predecessor. No disrespect to Bob intended but much different circumstances for Mike than Bob.

Same here...... Wilkerson does a great broadcast and has an excellent voice. Underwhelming hire from my perspective. Mike Keith's high-pitched shrills make for a horrible listening experience. But to each their own - I didn't listen to the radio broadcast of football games since JW retired - so won't change anything for me.
I had never heard him before the clips in this thread. I'm with you, though. Never a fan of the yellers.
