Welcome to Rocky Top Evina Westbrook

Regardless of who starts I think all of the freshmen will see a lot of minutes. I think Hayes has less obstacles to starting than any of the freshmen. Cooper was terrible as a freshman and now an injury we'll see how she has progressed by next season. Middleton can shoot the ball but can't guard anybody whereas Hayes is a very good defensive player.
She may end up coming off the bench because she is a freshman but I don't think there is anything scary about Cooper and Middleton that she couldn't pass them both up at least by mid-season.

I agree with the posters who advocate a wait and see approach when it comes to the freshmen. You note that Cooper was terrible as a freshman, but there were many of us here on the board convinced that she would be the savior to take over the PG position from Jordan/Andraya, and we saw how well that worked out.

The good thing about the freshmen, assuming that Diamond and Mercedes stay for their senior year, is that they can be worked into the rotation slowly without having to produce right away. For the most part, all will be playing behind more seasoned players. Kind of like the benefit that some of Baylor's highly rated freshmen have this season. It will pay off by the end of the season that they aren't thrown into the firepit on day one.

What hurt this group, early on, more than anything was "off season improvements"... Seemingly, there weren't any summer improvements until this year.

" An old and true adage,.. "Players are made in the off-season, teams are made during the season".

I agree that she looks good!👍

BUT her stats so far : three point shots = 26%
And two point shots a little better at 35% 😈

But she does look good 😜

It will be interesting moving forward. The newer players are of a higher skillset. Coaches are having trouble capitalizing with this, instead making recruits conform to their style of play.

A compromise is necessary for the newer athlete to excel.

They have to be given freedom to use their higher skillset wit the understanding that greater risk is greater reward, but also, "greater cost" if unsuccessful. . . . . Meaning, no-look passes are an advantage to the BH'er, but if not successful, it looks like they are showboating.

Maybe you should look at her shot and not at her.

She pushes the ball from the shot-pocket instead of bringing it above her temple. This might be ok for an out of comfort-range shot like some of the 3's she jacks up...But from anything inside of the arc...shooting from the belly asr a 6 footer is a no no.

You knew exactly what I meant by my comment. Yet, you reflexively went into Coach J mode and lectured me on Dunbar's shooting mechanics. I can see why Holly might be reluctant to engage your services for some of her players.

I am sorry, but you are assuming I knew what you meant. We get comments on this site about the physical beauty of these girls too. Of which, Dunbar is a very pretty young lady.

I don't know you personally, but if you are talking mechanics, of which I am a coach of, her mechanics need tweaking for her midrange game. When a player shoots out of their comfort range (The range level at which they have to change their mechanics "just to get it there", I expect them to shoot with improper mechanics. But when a player shoots from inside the arc, the "below eye-push" is detrimental in that it makes the shot much more blockable.

Sorry you took me that way.

Coach J mode?

I don't give a flip how they shoot it, if they can hit it. Cooper shoots a push shot off her shoulder but I didn't see it getting blocked last year. I just saw too many misses.

If you shoot from below the temple, then you limit yourself with what shots you can take. If you shoot from above the temple,. shots like: fade-away, step-back, high-rebounded-put-backs, and movement shots are much more doable than if you start your shot from below the temple.

That is one of the things that should define the movement from HS to college is the elimination of flawed mechanics... A better example is Jaime Nared. She is a phenomenal player with excellent energy and very good foot movement on defense. Her layup, however, often leaves her hand before she fully extends her arm. This causes you to flip the ball up instead of laying the ball off of the glass. As good as JN is, she could be much better with fine tuning.

Agree lets see how Cooper recover after her injury, As for who starts yet to TBD. My bet is that Hayes will play a lot of minutes even if she don`t start. I see Westbrook and Davis as starters and mark this down Middleton will see her minutes cut in half.

Very few players look better than Kortney when shooting.

I thought you were referring to her shooting mechanics too.

After all, looks won't win games, offense and defense do. They can't all be Candaces. Of course I think they all, past and present, have been beautiful...they're Lady Vols.

Hey, one of my sisters wants me to come up and help her get ready to move back to Kingston. And good games coming up in the next couple weeks? I haven't decided whether to come up yet.
