Our players are actually suited better for the 1-3-1. A line-up of Thompson, J-Rich, Jordan, Moore and Stokes would be very formidable. You have the big man who can go rebound and is excellent at anticipating where the ball is coming off the rim, the athletic freak in Moore who can fly in and snag a board away from anybody and also get a hand in the face of the three point shooter. Then three lengthy guards who could terrorize the passing lanes and contest shots. We have trouble guarding the other teams guards in man to man. Martin needs to suck it up and work this in more if he wants to keep his job. Maybe he doesn't?
I know what a 1-3-1 is. The weaknesses of the 1-3-1 is that high to low pass (base line cuts) and having the ball kicked to the corners for an easy jump shot/3 pointer. Not sure what you mean by that, you didn't even explain your conclusion..Lol apparently some one doesn't really understand what a 1-3-1 zone is

You're a pessimist.
You think Cuonzo is worse than this? Are you blind? I don't like Cuonzo, infact I want Bruce back. But to say he is one of the WORST coaches ever? Are you serious? Wade

Cuonzo Martin is not that bad. Way better than Pearls predecessors. Just not even close to Pearl![]()
Tennessee ran the 1-3-1 for the first time against Alabama. They put it in at about the 15 to go mark and ran it the rest of the game. They were leading by 6. Bama was dumbfounded and Tennessee won by 17. No threes were made! The best line up was Thompson on the point, AJ Davis and Jordan McRae on the wings, Stokes in the middle, and Richardson running the baseline. It appeared next against Vandy early in the second half for two minutes. They did not hit a 3. They didn't use it at all in the blowout against South Carolina. Against Florida, they used it with 8 minutes to go, down by 7. Tennessee closed it to 2. Florida did not score against the zone. They hit two free throws, a three in transition, and another three when Martin went back to man-to-man to put it away. They used it 1 minute against Missouri. They used it for one minute late in the first half against Georgia and had 1 three hit (thanks to bleedingTNorange for noting that one). By the way at that time Barton was out front instead of Thompson with his length. It did not show against A & M. So I think they would have beat Florida, Missouri, and Texas A & M if they had just used it a total of one quarter in each game. That would make them 19-8 and 10-4 in the conference.Solid imo.
Interesting some think we are more susceptible to giving up a 3 in that zone. But I cringed waiting for a backside lob every time I saw us in it.
Wait.... yup Vandy just had another ooop.
